Gonchi: And you really can't do that by simply seeing their username and going "nope, not going to read that" and scrolling down past their post or thread?
Sometimes I'm doing exactly this although most of the time I read it and think "nope, not going to feed the troll".

I can (and do), but I'd rather not see the post at all. Think interstitial ads: there's shitty content you don't want always getting in the way of potentially useful content. Same reason we don't want spam on the forums - except no one wants spam, and ignore is personalized. (I block threads by username already, but it's a PITA to synchronize the lists.)

HypersomniacLive: Sadly not, but you can vote for it on theWishlist, and if we're fortunate enough, it might be available when the site-wide overhaul goes live.
Has there been any progress update on that front?
Why should it need an ignore feature ? Just ignore people you want to ignore, if you're such a touchy, aggressive type of person : it's totally under your control to do so. Need everyone to think exactly the same as you do ? Kill yourself or find a new planet. Learn to live with different opinions. It's the internet, it's a Tower of Babel. Everybody knows absolutely everything on the internet. It's just as laughable and as shit as the world proper. Remove your head from your arse and learn some diplomacy. Read some decent philosophy. Stop thinking you know everything already. Enjoy life, stop putting people to rights all the time.

(This is just advice to myself which I'm considering taking. I'm still mulling it over.)

You just don't get it. It's for the sake of convenience and partly sanity. You do realize our brain already filter out things it consider unnecessary? Why not take advantage of that function and add on it if it works? It has nothing to do with being sensitive or narcissistic, it's much more likely that people who are offended by this potential feature have those characteristics.

Yes but it's In this way that forums develop cliques - which is never a good thing. Blocking / ignoring somebody is INSULTING. If you are being genuinely harassed or stalked then fair enough, but people will use a block / ignore feature for far less substantial reasons. Before you know it your site is like a kids' playground - mind you, that's the internet for you.

There are some really arrogant people on the internet. It's full of know-it-alls, just like the world itself. You just need to grow a sense of humour, if you don't already have one. A conversation on the internet isn't going to make any earth-shattering changes to your life unless you let it affect you too much.

A block / ignore feature isn't a stupid idea but I don't agree with it for the reasons which I stated above. It's just PETTY imo. If you don't like Internet forums - and I certainly don't - then just avoid them. I'm considering avoiding them completely myself from now on. Face-to-face conversation is so much more flexible and REAL.

Potzato: The 'ignore feature' on the forum got mixed into the search feature :p
That means we'll never find it.

I suppose it is but I we block / ignore people all the time. Whenever we don't allow people into our homes because we want to control our environement as much as possible, it's just a fact of life we need to accept as much as we need to accept people's differences. I would also argue that I see it as a grey area where some people would abuse ignore function and ignore whoever speaks against their opinions, some might use it once in a while and some might not even use it, either because they don't like it or don't need it. Either way, a choice is better.

Regarding cliques (I never knew that word before, I knew the meaning however), one wants to avoid such groups but they will pop up and will continue to do so anyway, I don't see how an ignore function will affect that much. After all, this place is all about DRM-free and many members are very hostile towards new comers who as much as mention Steam, let alone say they use it (I think DRM-free is important but I also use Steam for games that I can't purchase here). Then we have the classic fanatics who think every game released after the 90s or later than DOS aren't games. I mean, an ignore fucntion isn't really going to make their barrier to people who only enjoy new games any less negative.

That explains why we never find what we expect ;)

To this day I don't even have any idea what we're expecting, or what we're looking for.

No idea, I'm just going by TET's word about it as I'm not privy to GOG's inner works and schedules. Perhaps ask GOG directly for more info?
