I've just been wondering about this. Because I see people from every corner of the globe posting here, sometimes in broken English, but it's always English. I went to the settings but didn't see any language option. So does GOG auto filter the language to every country or do you have to put it through a translator?

No, the broken english is from people and their inadequate understanding of the english language.
Aber wir können's ja mal auf deutsch versuchen, mal sehen was wie Du Dich da schlägst.

No, it's just people writing in English
Non, il n'y a pas de traduction automatique des messages. La plupart d'entre nous ont probablement appris l'anglais à l'école. Mais comme il ne s'agit pas de notre langue natale, il arrive que nous fassions des erreurs. *

* No, there's no automated translation of the posts. Most of us probably learned English at school. But since it's not our maternal language, we sometimes make mistakes.

He. For me, it was done reading pen-and-paper RPG books in the 80's. It provided a huge motivation for my schoolwork ^^

Having a father who lived several years in Australia, and decided to teach us English at an early age, didn't hurt either.
International folks learned English to better participate in global communication.

Sometimes I envy people in non-English speaking countries who had such a strong incentive to be bilingual. I took many years of Spanish in school (the most popular option in the US), but I've almost never had to use it since and have since found out other languages would have been more useful to study.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. Learning 2 foreign languages is mandatory in French high school, but I lost most of my German since I don't have to practice it on a daily basis (and I sucked at it during high school anyway). But even without internet, I often read books in English so I kept a decent skill. And videogames provide a daily practice, too.
Well, a decent reading skill anyway. I can also understand a spoken conversation if the accent is clear, but I become very clumsy and self-conscious when I try to speak it myself ^^

Going abroad is a great opportunity indeed. I mainly learned english through fallout (as I already said) and Magic:TG cards.
