I would wait until they finish it...if they ever finish it, considering their source code was stolen.

They had back ups covering most of it. However, considering how much bad luck they've been having and the fact that they hadn't been making regular back ups, I'd definitely recommend holding off for those that haven't already contributed to the cause.

Yeah, I just went to their site and read about how the backups they had weren't as far back as they feared but I would still hold off until they get their act together.

Considering how inexpensive a service like Crashplan is, even for a commercial enterprise, it's inexcusable. I'd have thought the car bomb out front of their office would be evidence to them that they needed to take such precautions.

About the source code, how much does a source code file "weigh" in terms of megabytes anyways? Surely, not enough to where you couldn't keep it on a pendrive of some sort...

Not big, considering that when I install FreeBSD, they can fit the OS, source and quite a few packages on one CDROM, that ought to give you some idea as to how large a set of files you're looking at.

The bigger problem is that you're dealing with revision control that's going to greatly increase the necessary storage space, but even then, it should fit on a CDROM, especially for a game that size.
so i should lay it off and spend my money elsewhere your saying?

+1 I gave them some money quite a while back, so I'll continue following progress, but that was before a lot of this stuff happened.

At this stage, I wouldn't recommend giving them any money until they get at least to beta builds and realistically a full release.
Admittedly, I have spent hours on this game, and totally recommend it.

However, know what you're getting into, the game is still alpha, the developers have a tendency for drunk rants, and they have the worst luck of a developer I've ever seen.

That being said, the price will go up eventually, although that has probably been severely delayed due to the recent burglary.

If you haven't played the demo, give it a go, that's a good indication of what the game is, since the updates since have not added too many new features.

Generally tiny. Assets (like art and stuff) can get really big, though.
Well i was going to follow your guys advice until I found out the price would go up so I thought it over and I decided to buy it and... well I have to say its pretty awsome and I feel pretty good to support the devs with how much bad luck they have been having. Now alls they need is a save feature... unless there is one and I dont know about it :S
