Rohan15: Was that before my time?

Wishbone: Yes, it was.
Now, was there ever a stand alone patch released?!

Yes there was - albeit unofficially.

Of course, the whole affair has been rendered moot by Arkane since releasing not only an even newer patch but also the source code which has been used to create an entirely new engine.

Licurg: Am i a moron? Because i read like the first 60-70 posts of that thread and didn't get what that guy was angry about...
Noone did, which is why he was so heavily downrepped. Apparently, when Arx Fatalis was added to the GOG catalog, the developer fixed a couple of bugs in the version of the game they gave to GOG for sale. However, the developer didn't make a standalone patch with the bugfixes, so people who had bought the game in retail would have to re-buy the game on GOG if they wanted those bugs fixed. This, he seemed to reason, was somehow GOG's fault.

What a retard :P
People do give bad rep and i would know. A year ago i had an emotional mental breakdown on good old games, of all places. The thread made no sense and was emotionally disturbing. However, it was only till after that i learned to laugh at it. Now it is friggin hysterical. You can get a bad rep but its mostly just if you are being a scumbag or really annoying.
Don't downvote often, personally I see it as some silly: "I'm telling mummy" button.
Been downvoted a couple of times for atrocious blind-drunk posting, but that's fair enough. Ultimately, you cannot care for rep and take yourself seriously as a human being anyway, so it really is an arbitrary number next to your virtual avatar on an online forum about old computer games.
My rep dropped from --93 to --87 overnight.

:)
I'll admit I've been guilty a couple of times since I first came here.. I downvoted two or three times in the past when I didn't like what someone had said to me. An interesting feature of the downrep button is that it makes the post get hidden so you don't have to see it, so there's that psychological idea that downvoting a particular post will make it go away for you.

Normally, however, I only click the red - button when I think someone is truly being a jerk or probably needs to leave. As has been said, when someone is trolling or spamming and such.

Youtube has a problem with this, actually, as you'll see some otherwise good videos (or simply comments) downvoted because somebody didn't like what was shown or said for.. well, flimsy reasons. I uploaded a very short clip of my accomplishing something in a ROM once, and people downvoted it because it didn't look "nice enough" and the audio was out of sync. The point was to simply show it and say, "hey, I pulled it off", not to post up a freaking work of art.
I tend to do it to people that drag threads off topic. Gaming Deal thread one for instance. Few people that love to treat it as their personal blog, or start the 10000th ORIGIN/STEAM/DRM FREE arguement.
Never downrep'ed anyone so far, although I have been severely tempted once or twice...

I have only downrep a couple of times but that is if they have been really insulting other gog members or are spamming apart from that i try and not touch that button.
