It's not that simple I think, GOG probably wouldn't be able to put games with that type of sexual content content (even drawn/animated type) without some kind of change in legal status of this store, or having an 18+ Adults section of the GOG site, which would naturally result in a damage of reputation with many viewing GOG as a Criterion Collection of sorts for old games, having eroges here would turn some people off.

Also, as someone who used to play lots of translated VN a few years ago, there's almost no division in the sexual content, there's no "softcore" VN's (afaik) where the sex is more like the type you'd see in a Hollywood movie, it's always either 1) No erotic content at all, or 2) the sexual content is pornographic, showing genitals and everything else.

It's my personal favorite, and is pretty much unlike any other VN I've played, it has a really unorthodox and "serious" in tone storyline with plot twists which are almost impossible to predict.

Ill probably get that eventually, but until sales ill be content on bombing alien species to extinction (MoO2), raising the dead and summoning demons (MoM), have a nuclear war or two (civ4 atm) and in general killing anything and everything (most of games).

iippo, the reason "pedo-porn" (as keeveek so eloquently put it) even entered the discussion, was that one of the screenshots on the game card involved a 31-year-old male character talking about having an affair with the game's 14-year-old female protagonist.

Well Japanese games (or anime-styled games in general) have a kinda tainted image based on certain eroge titles, which feature tentacle rapes and such. It is easy for someone not familiar with the various genres of manga/VNs to label them all into one big genre.

Same with FPS games, for instance. Those unfamiliar with the genre think it is all about mindless mass-murdering, without ever realising the great difference between Half-Life, Medal of Honor and KISS: Psycho Circus - The Nightmare Child to name a few. The most laughable FPS genre description I have seen was in some article and it read: "in the game you move the hand that kills". To top that, the article had a screenshot of some ancient non-3D-accelerated FPS game.

Of course it is surprising to see uneducated complaining on GOG, which one would assume to be a gathering place for the more genre-educated players (false assumption, it seems).


But, anywayz... I support VNs and HOGs on GOG. The more games, the better. If you don't like some, simply don't buy them. Let your wallet do the talking.

I dont really see that as something to be shocked about. Its -game-, its not real, its not meant for children and the list goes on and on.

A lot more. While there are plenty of eroge VN's many of them have non-erotic versions and there's tons of normal VN's as well. Also there are, as mentioned already, number of western VN game studios like , [url=http://www.winterwolves.com/]WinterWolves, and HanakoGames.

Right. Because of course you can't post an opinion on a game forum without first buying the game and playing it all the way through several times to make sure you've caught every nuance. And "an affair between a 31-year-old and a 14-year-old" sounds perfectly innocent, and does not at all make it seem like the game deals with an affair between a 31-year-old and a 14-year-old. Silly me.

If you misrepresent a game, and other people take that misrepresentation at face value, the fault is yours, not theirs.

The game deals with the topic of affairs and betrothal, all the while pointing out that 14 is too young to marry.
From what I know about the game I guess that Elodie failed another Court Manner check and now people think that she's having an affair with Benion which is not true. Such an affair would be scandalous. And not OK.
(I haven't played through the game in a way that lead me to this dialogue yet, admittedly).

You have Elodie stating in other scenes that she's only 14 and too young to marry, you have her father being shocked when another nobleman wants to marry her (and she agrees to a betrothal).

So no, this screenshot doesn't mean that such an affair would be innocent or OK in the context of the game.
From my experience with the game it doesn't deal with an affair between a 31-year-old and a 14-year-old.

It does deal with a 14-year-old that can (depending on her skill set) be too stupid to see why foreign nobles are sending her jewellery and are making compliments.

It IS a really fun game.

No, you should definitely formulate an "opinion" (basically shouting pedo porn and getting your pitchforks and torches ready) after seeing one screenshot from a game.

Also, who the fuck cares about how old is a video game character, especially one that looks like a cartoon.
One question remains - would that really be so horrible if such affairs in the game were presented as ok? First of all, it would be historically accurate, secondly, it's just a game, not a single person would be harmed if something like that was presented as an option.

It's so stupid that people are concerned that there are no children in Fallout 1 and 2 so you can't blow them up with your grenades, but at the same time get crazy over a fact some 14 year old manga character could possibly have an affair with a grown man.

Riddiculous.

I personally wouldn't like it. For me it would feel icky. But that's just me. :-)
I also don't like it that 16-years-olds can get married here in Germany (with the agreement of their parents and the court).

But I'm also one of those people who cannot play the Binding of Isaac because the main character looks like a baby.

I really wouldn't mind VNs like Steins;Gate on GOG. I'm not sure about ones that have pornographic scenes though. I've played a couple I like if they aren't the focus(Utawareumono, Tsukikage) but not really sure they belong here.
