Igorq: My mistake :) - that's because normally I just don't care for any paid add-ons for games ;)
By the way - I also think that GOG intentionally removed "DLC" tag to avoid bad connotations - pretty annoying for those who cares for this, but I'm afraid that most of the people will just don't notice any difference - as long as GOG will prevent purchasing such "updates" without "base" game (which GOG actually does - I believe).

Grargar: You can't directly buy a DLC if you don't have the base game. Having said that, there have been some users that made the purchase as a gift hoping that they could redeem it, only to find out that you can't redeem a DLC if you don't have the base game.
I was one of those people *laughs nervously*

Yet I still agree there should always be a way to search for DLC/"Add-ons" rather then having to know the name.

Igorq: This particular limitation I can understand - I imagine that some users can have base game from another source and want only DLC here, but most users are really not aware what DLC actually means.
Additional topic is a support which GOG tries to give to their customers - without such restriction they would probably acquire lot of support requests from users not able to run GOG DLC with their own copy of the base game (Stream, Ebay or even pirated copy) .
GOG could make it easier to find at first glance why a DLC pack is different from a base game by having a visual indication. Steam, for instance, has a purple stripe on the top-left corner of a game's image that says "DLC". Naturally, this will draw the attention of the customer; "Why is this different"? When he visits the game's page, he finds out a purple banner that says "This content requires the base game X on Steam in order to play."which stands out from Steam's dark-blue background. On GOG, it just isn't as evident. They even removed the small cross that used to be on the top part of the DLC's image.

Not even sure why they even used the acronym DLC in the first place - its a steam only thing and should have gone/stuck with *Upgrade* from day one. There are 8 recent games (Wasteland 2 etc with Upgrades available (i dont remember seeing them previously listed as DLC)- thats what they are probably doing now to move the previously listed DLC now as Upgrades...

The latest *DLC* Last federation Betrayed Hope isnt listed as DLC nor as Upgrade. But it does say *TO PLAY THIS ITEM YOU ALSO NEED*

Personally, I heard the word DLC from the Xbox era, so I disagree that Steam invented it. The "upgrade" part of the games' title existed before the removal of the "DLC" tag. Either with Wasteland 2, or Dreamfall Chapters, or Shadowgate, etc.

And yes, it does say "To play this item you also need", but it's not particularly eye-catching and you still need to visit the page itself to find this out.

StingingVelvet: Hopefully GOG Galaxy makes this a non-issue sooner rather than later.

mrkgnao: How could an optional application make anything a non-issue? What about the people who opt not to use it?
Why would you opt not to use it?

I still don't know what's it doing, so I can't really answer.
But I know that I'm not using the GOG downloader because of its very basic limitations (e.g. cannot choose directory name, cannot choose directory hierarchy), so I have low expectations of Galaxy.
It really depends on what it will offer as opposed to what it will prevent.
Regardless, I want the option to choose, so I will be very disappointed if some basic website features are removed or not fixed (e.g. update system) because Galaxy is available.

P.S. I'm not interested in multiplayer.

Well yeah, we'll have to see how well it functions, but given how terrible GOG's current system is for new games with DLC and frequent updates I can't imagine it being worse.

O ye of little faith. Sure it can.
Remember when they used to be called "Expansion Packs?"
