not that some of the prices arent great but some things are cheaper on disc, and thats dissapointing, but what dissapoints me more is the games that i would be interested having DRM on top of steam. that and no gog.com like bonuses. anyone else agree?

dunno... i've been pretty giddy about several of them. like burnout ultimate and bfbc2
Killing DRM with fire is a convenient option but at the same time it supports whoever put that DRM there in the first place.

GameRager: I just buy and crack out the drm....problem solved. :D
Or pirate and write a cheque to the developers... problem solved... unless the game is published by the same company... then I don't know what to do.
Every Steam sale someone is disappointed... it all depends on what you own already and what you're looking for.

I have been disappointed the last few times because most of their sales seem to be on games available elsewhere. I wish more Steam download exclusives were on sale, as that is all I would buy there.

So pretty much the opposite of a boycott...

GameRager: We all know how effective DRM boycotts are....about as effective as using normal weapons against werewolves. Or getting a religious fundamentalist to belive in evolution even.

They're shite......people don't boycott enough or the companies just don't care. I'm not standing up for doomed causes unless they make a major turnaround and seem like they're reasonably winnable within my lifetime.
I didn't say boycotts work, I'm firmly convinced they don't in 99% of cases. Reverse boycotts do make things worse though, I'd rather see toolbags die and go out of business. Perhaps we'll get some more awesome companies to fill the void then.

If you're gonna crack the DRM out anyway, well, why give them money, it sends the exact wrong message; don't play it or you know...

GameRager: IF I you know people call me a thief.......which is worse in your opinion? Being called a thief or a supporter of DRM? :\
People can call you whatever they want. I have a huge (and I do mean huge) pile of purchased games I can point to. If someone called me something like that I'd laugh it off. That's not the only option of course. I've never played HL2 and I'm a big fan of the first one.
I never understand people who can look at over a thousand games being on sale, including around a dozen a day at big discounts, and come away disappointed. Surely there is something in there you'd like!

And sure, sometimes I own a lot of the games marked down...doesn't mean it isn't a great day of bargains, though.
The daily sales often don't interest me because I usually own most of the games that are on sale (or they are out of my price range [ > $7.50 ] or they're in the group of games that is almost always discounted [like Torchlight]). On occasion there are really good deals for me though.
'Disappointed' probably isn't the right word. However, no one who has followed the major sales on Steam for the past couple of years can objectively disagree that the discounts on some of the more mainstay titles have not been as big as they have in the past. Examples being: Mass Effect, Borderlands, and Telltale games. It isn't a matter of preference or someone being upset that what they specifically wanted hasn't been on sale, rather specifically identifiable titles are getting less of a discount than they have six months to a year ago.

The likely reason is that the customer base had grown and people are more apt to buy things during the Holidays as opposed to the middle of the summer (when they had a big sale six months ago). And hey, if they run the numbers and determine they'll make more money selling X units at Y price as opposed to A units at B price then that's their prerogative. They've certainly hit a sweet spot with the indie packs, though, as they are obviously calculated to draw more attention to people who would otherwise overlook budget/lesser known titles.
Compared to previous sales, the recent ones on Steam have not been all that good in terms of discounts or selection of games (for the daily deals). And there are still some games that have never had a sale since their release on Steam =/.
well i got shitloads of pardadox games. not sure how many but around 20?

i also bought myself a mass effect 2.

Good sale for me.
I've only purchased a few things this sale. Might as well wait...

Absolutely! It was that totally unexpected steam summer sale that bagged most of the games I wanted at that time. But this sale has been my best yet, the THQ pack was my deal of the damn year and none of them contain additional drm. Before anyone SHOUTS GFWL, I always, always offline mode for it, essentially creating a title that only has steam for drm. I'm not missing multiplayer, since GFWL hates my fibre optic connection.

Sales like these depend on what type of gamer you are, since I love nearly every single genre out there, buying lots of games with only steam drm was a synch.
