anyone know how to do this? I have a game that wants the disk, but its scratched so it keeps trying to load but wont. Im hoping that if i disable auto-run it will just see the disk is in the drive and be done with it.

(for some reason my gog copy of BG, needs the disk.. I dont get it. lucky for me i have it or id be up the creek.

anyways, anyone know how to disable it? maybe it will keep my drive from running non stop every time i play it.

No, your GOG copy doesn't need the disc. If you get asked for the disc then you've probably applied some patch/mod that has re-introduced the disc check.

Re-install the game to fix it and only use patches/mods that others here have confirmed are working.

Disabling auto-run will not disable CD check measures, but might stop it from trying to load the disc installer/launcher. So, if you don't want to re-install then either stick with the disc (if you are able to read it for CD check) or get a NoCD patch.

Wasn't there some error that made it try to read the disc anyway? That should have been solved though.
Control Panel -> Autoplay?

Using 7 right now, don't remember if Vista has this section.

EDIT: About your problem with BG, contact support.

Some GOG games and supposedly DRM-free games from other DD sites do seem to sometimes ask for the disc. If this has happened more than once I'd contact support (and hope you're lucky enough to get an answer).
Another possibility is that registry junk from a non-GOG installation was left behind.
thats the info i needed... thanks marv... I was looking all over control pannel, but totally missed that. I could swear all those options were under device manager in 2k.. vista still gives me fits trying to do things i found second nature under 2000

Ive gotton mixxed info on the patch... Some say install the patch, Others say dont.. I still havent found out if the interntional patch is included or not.

till then the disable will work fine.. It keeps the disk drive from running constantly trying to load in.. for some reason the disk check works just fine though.

It's certainly not the international patch, seeing how the game is in English (only non-English versions used the international patch). I don't know wether it's the US or UK version, though the DirectX 8+ patch is applied so it's the latest official version available (1.3.5521).

If you installed a patch then that's where the disc check came from. So that answers that for you. What people were more likely referring to are community patches as opposed to official ones. If not then they don't really know what they're talking about.
