Looking at the list of new games on the site today made me think about DLC (DownLoadable Content, as I understand it). Case in point, there are three entries in the list for both Gods Will Be Watching and Unrest -- one for the game, one for the DLC, and one for the two combined. I'd started seeing multiple entries per game and was getting puzzled, but today I was pretty annoyed when I realized the stuff included in the DLCs for both games were things like posters, dev diaries, novelas, etc. That is, no new game content, but things that used to go in a standard GOG release.

I can see the concept of DLC being useful as a sort of mini-expansion, where the developers can add new content -- e.g. a faction in a strategy game, or a campaign in an RPG -- without releasing a full fledged expansion. In short, something like the DLC for Shadowrun. I don't think DLCs like the ones for Unrest and GWBW are useful at all.

But even if that's not the view others have of what DLC is or should be, I would find it very useful if I could disable the showing of certain DLCs, Upgrade packs, Deluxe editions and other extra content. It makes the site busy and less useful (and quite frankly, annoying, but that's subjective). I am thinking of putting this as a suggested site feature, but want to see what others think. Do DLCs like the ones for Unrest and Gods Will Be Watching bother you? Would you be interested in a feature like the one suggested?

The opposite. If someone is interesting in the game only, he can buy it for a small price. If someone is interested in the game and soundtrack, he can buy it for a higher price. Lack of those options would mean that either someone who was interested in the game only would have to pay a higher price (only deluxe edition available) or that someone who was interested in the soundtrack wouldn't be able to get it on GOG (only standard edition available).
Best case scenario would of course be game + soundtrack for a cheap price, but that is not always possible.

An ignore game feature would be nice to have, be it for Adventures, DLCs, games already owned or any other filter you wish to apply.

They actually do bother me, but more in the way the promotion is set up, and I worry that it might be costing GoG sales. For both these games, it was a long time before I realized the game was actually only 9.99 - I had to dig to find this out, even AFTER I saw someone in a thread point it out (I didn't realize that what made the edition "premium" were soundtracks, art books and the like).

What worries me is that someone finds this site looking for Unrest or GWBW, sees the $20 price tag and promptly walks. Because like I mentioned, I had no clue these games were $10 and even after I learned that I had a hard (this is relative, of course) time "tracking down" the game only. Unrest in particular was one that I might have "impulse bought" at $10 (I had never heard of the game and when it showed up I took a quick look at its game card) - when I saw the $20 tag I thought it could go in the "wait and see" folder and promptly fired up something I had already grabbed.

If this is a publisher / dev pushing the promo and banner for the premium edition they're doing a disservice to GoG; if this is GoG's market team doing it you might want to make it more clear that there's an option $10 cheaper for those new guests who wander in and see the front page marquee for a game that costs double what they might have been expecting.
DLC on gog is very much in the down direction.

but seriously, though, the newer the game the more likely stuff like this is.

what matters is whether this starts to affect how older games are released.

again, it was likely the developer's choice, not gog's.

no harm in it. just get the original game. it's entirely possible they'll both be lumped into one golden edition later, to try and get uninterested people to be more likely to buy, and you'll just get upgraded. I personally don't care about this too much. I will admit that it's a bit worse than launch game DLC, which again, I don't have much problem with when talking about indies, but I still don't really mind too much. I'm not really big on the idea of grinding indies' gears.

At least with Unrest there's an effective discount for buying the Special Edition straight away. GWBW's Special costs 19.99, versus the base game plus DLC's 19.98 total.
I had the same reaction as you. I do not care for multiple entries and extra stuff being separate. It also does make the game seem more expensive than it is.
