Aliasalpha: Its not just names, remember some of the fucking awful cover art that got changed for no real reason to something generic, awful or both for the american market? Look at the covers for Ico or Heavy Rain. Hell look at the discworld novels, load up google images and search for Unseen Academicals, its like they don't WANT to sell the books
Its like they don't think we can comprehend the picture so they need to make it simpler.

Smannesman: Fahrenheit and Indigo Prophecy has had me stumped since it's release.. perhaps it's like Haagen Dasz, where the name was changed to make it sound exotic?
I just searched Haagen Dasz. Turns out it isn't even real words. They just came up with something that sounded Scandinavian. aha.

I was aware of that, they chose a name without understanding the connotation. It's not really that big a deal to us, it's just an odd way of going about it, but when you're centralizing your decisions in Japan, that's what's going to happen.

Personally, I've got nothing against Canon, they're the only company I buy cameras from these days, but some of the marketing isn't really very good.
I seem to remember from my lecturer in the marketing class years ago about Coca Cola bringing ancestors back to life in China and Parker Pen will not make someone pregnant :-D

EDIT: Oh wait, that's not Coca Cola but Pepsi, and it's in Taiwan not China. I seem to mix them both, sorry :-)
