Some games suck the patience right out of me, like some succubus.
Dark Souls is a good example of this. I've put more than 200 hrs into it yet haven't actually beaten it.

On the other hand I have the patience to practice the same lap in a racing sim hour after hour, day after day.
Hoping to get just a little bit better with every lap and perfecting the technical handling of the vehicle.

I also play strategy games, simulators and rogue-likes. Which by nature require considerable patience.

So it annoys me when someone tells me to just be patient.
I have plenty of patience, just not that particular type of patience.
The worst thing about Dark Souls for me was having to travel to the boss every single time. If I die in 10 seconds for some reason, that becomes tedious fast.

Capra Demon.

I was chugging along through the game enjoying it, feeling like I was at least learning from my mistakes when I died, and then I hit the Capra Demon. That was such a badly designed battle that took advantage of every weakness in the camera and controls at once to screw me over. It was through a portal so I couldn't come up with a strategic approach or try attacking from a different angle. The 360 controls made it impossible to run and adjust the camera at the same time. And the room was very small, so especially upon entering the room the camera wouldn't show me what I needed to see. Half the time I'd go through the portal and all I could see was leaves, so I'd try adjusting the camera or blindly running and dodging, but I kept dying over and over again.

It was so frustrating because it didn't feel like my fault and it didn't feel like I was learning anything from any of the deaths. It was just a waste of time and made me lose faith in the game's "fairness." I finally killed the Capra Demon because I was stubborn and kept trying until I got lucky and the camera gave me a clear shot so that I could see where to dodge to (and then once I got out into the open part it wasn't even a hard fight, it was just getting out of the entrance alive that was so difficult because of the camera issues). But after that I didn't feel like playing any more. I tried a few times but kept losing interest.

So yeah, I have a lot of patience when I feel like I'm actually accomplishing something, even if that something is simply learning or figuring out where to go and what to do. But I have no patience when I feel like a game is wasting my time pointlessly.

Whenever I lose patience with a game, I just exit the game and play some Diablo 2 for some instant gratification.

This is particularly the case when I get stuck with some point & click adventure puzzle and nothing at all happens for 1-2 hours or more, after that it's very therapeutic to kill Pindleskin 100 times in a row or something.

Hee hee :P If I make literally no progress in an adventure game for that long, I look at the Universal Hint System site and try to selectively peek at the hints to get an idea where to look without spoiling it too much.

I feel the same way when someone randomly spots me in Splinter Cell. So frustrating, and again, you feel its not your fault because there are too many enemies to keep track of, and they patrol randomly.

That's the smart way to go about it. Unfortunately, I have some kind of stubborn pride which has resulted in a big pile of unfinished adventure games, some of which I've started many years years ago -_-
I'm worried that if I peek at hints, it will spoil the experience or I'll accidentally see too much of the solution.

But with an ever increasing backlog and more in-progress games than I can keep track of, I'm definitely tempted to start using hints so I can finally finish stuff and move on because even if cheating spoils the fun, being stuck is no fun either so why prolong the suffering...and my patience is growing thin with some games.

I've grown so tired of being stuck that I happily jump at any easy to finish adventure, Blackwell series ftw
Just got the last one, I hope I didn't jinx it just now and get stuck in that one, that would be embarrassing but funny!**

**not for me though

Jennifer: Capra Demon.
So many people say this. Such a breeze. :S

And i lack the patience... After dying several times in the first level over the period of an hour or two, i pretty much shelved the the game..

Well... Demon souls, not dark souls, but it's basically the same thing...

That's why I like this site :)

I always check there first if I'm stuck in an adventure game. It has a series of questions and usually the questions aren't too spoiler-ish, and then can click for a series of increasingly more specific hints. Sometimes just looking at the questions is enough, like if there's a question saying, "Where's the gear?" and I didn't even know there was a gear then I know to look for it. And usually just clicking the first or second hint is enough without having to spoil the whole solution.

Yeah, the actual fight itself is pretty easy. I just had a lot of trouble with the camera trying to see what was going on in the entrance to the boss fight (damned leaves XD). I was playing on 360 though, and it was impossible for me to move the camera while also pressing the sprint button, so I had to keep retrying until I got lucky with a clear view of the boss right from the start of the fight. I imagine adjusting the camera would have been a lot easier on PC with the mod to fix the keyboard/mouse controls.
