Hey all! Do any of you remember Rocket Jockey?
What did you like about the game? How far did you get?

Has anyone had any luck running it on a windows 7 machine?
I LOVE THAT GAME. Original and brilliant, even to this day. Sure wouldn't mind a modern remake/sequel that gets rid of the input lag, has online multiplayer (never mind that the existing game can use Hamachi or something of that nature), and adds a custom arena editor, among other things.

As for my progress...well, I didn't spend too much time with Rocket Race or Rocket Ball, but I did beat Referee's Revenge legitimately, as damn near impossible as that may sound. Multiple times.

I haven't installed it on my Win7 machines again, though. It just doesn't seem to like CPUs of around 1.5 GHz or more in terms of the input code. The game itself runs silky-smooth, but that doesn't mean much when your inputs are randomly lagged, often screwing you over.

Perhaps a Win98SE virtual machine would do the trick...
Thread necro time! A bunch of guys are remaking Rocket Jockey for the iOS, iPad and PC, called Sprocket Junkie. They failed to fund their game via Kickstarter, but at least they're still working on it. You can check out the trailer here:

It looks really good, but the rope throwing has to be slower IMO. It's too fast and looks odd. Grappling stuff still looks fun as hell.

Their marketing is also really awful, as in, no one's heard of the game. The only reason I knew about it is because I am in Rocket Jockey Facebook group. So, spread the word guys!

If you have Facebook, you can try their alpha here. I gotta say, they're totally not putting any effort into marketing this game. At all. It's difficult to sympathize with the (lack of) popularity of this project.

Or, you can simply head over to this page. Password is alpha1.

I DID in fact play Rocket Jockey and I LOVED it! I loved it so much that I still play it and you can too if you use this patched installer.

I managed to find two copies of the game online that someone had discovered boxed up in an old warehouse. You can sometimes still find the game. Worse comes to worse, you could find an image, but you'll want to make sure you find one with the music tracks as the game is only half of its intended glory without the music.

I spoke with a person at GOG way back years ago when they first started the site. They told me that because of the obscurity of the title they'd have to see substantial interest before it would be financially viable to try to track down the holder of the IP and make an offer. There's a vote page on the wish list or whatever it's called, but it has way less interest than generic garbage like doom and warcraft. Still, have as many people as you can gather to vote in on it. I'm hopeful that we'll see it some day. Even if it never turns up at GOG or anywhere else, we can keep it alive through fandom.
