So for those fellow GoGs that have been blessed with a Diablo III Beta invite, whats your initial impressions of the game?

For my first play through I selected Demon Hunter. I am ever a fan of the rogue/ranged combat specialist, and I found the class to be a lot of fun in this regard.

At first I didn't like the new skill up system (No more skill trees !), however after fooling around with swapping in / swapping out different skills, I found it to be a neat feature . Also, the game doesn't punish the player for making a poor skillup choice. (

After some tweaking, I eventually settled on 'Evasive Shot' to take on normal mobs and 'Bola Shot' for the many clusters of enemies, with the occasional use of Caltrops to slow down those skeletons/zombies that were getting a little too close for comfort.

At one stage battle.net fell over and I was cut off mid game, which was doubly frustrating when I was outside the entrance of a big boss encounter, and then had to re-do the dungeon when the server came back online.

For a single player experience, I found that very frustrating. Initially I swore black and blue that this was the deal breaker for me. However, having now completed the games first chapter, it may just be a case of having to accept the bad with the good.

Because overall, I think it is very, very good =).
Bastard! Give me your invite!
You swap out skills instead of investing in skill trees? That's what I've always wished you could do.
Still waiting for my beta key...

At first i thought killing the skill was totally insane, but after thinking about it i see that it might have been a smart thing to do on their part. My only real concern is the RMAH and no single-player at all.
Many design decisions seem to be geared towards eliminating frustration and player downtime.

The skill tree removal is one such example, another is the streamlining of selling inventory.

'Torchlight' first touched on this, allowing your pet to run off to town to sell things for you, so that you could continue your hacking and slashing. Diablo III goes one step further by giving you a 'Cauldron of Jordan', which lets you sell items in your inventory on the fly. INCREDIBLY handy !

But what about those items you wish to disenchant for crafting ? Heres where the 'Nephalem Cube' comes into the picture. Again, an inventory bound item to handle all your disenchanting needs.

Because of the 'always online' bit, you cant pause the game. To combat this inconvenience, you get a very wow-like hearthstone called 'Stone of Recall', allowing you to cast a portal whenever you wish back to town. Kiss goodbye those familiar scrolls of town portal.

Unfortunately, if you exit the game before completing the dungeon you will lose all progress made.
seems this will be a thread with limited response :)
The bad thing about beta's is that not all get to taste it.

Here's hoping the game becomes public beta soon. There is certainly enough interest !

I believe it will be. After all, they should run a stress test. From what I've heard the beta is really short though.
