EC-: The first game was also on consoles. Given the consumer demand for console versions, I am not surprised. Better this than yet another modern military shooter.

orcishgamer: What? That stupid Vikings handheld game? Yep, Diablo was not their first game (Diablo was halfway made by a company they acquired and later renamed to Blizzard North).
That wasn't a handheld game, show some respect. That game was for DOS and it was actually kind of fun. Although Trine is a much better game in general, not that it's really fair to compare it with a game that came out well over a decade earlier.

Hmm, I could of sworn that was a handheld game but the fact it launched on so many consoles must have confused my aging brain, sorry:) The title was The Lost Vikings and apparently I was wrong about it being their first game, RPM Racing was apparently released a bit earlier than that.

EC-: I meant Diablo 1. It had a PSX port.
I know that you meant Diablo, I was merely teasing you for saying "first game":)

Oh, ok. I missed your sarcasm like my name was Sheldon Cooper.

It's completely understandable, we orcs are known for our subtlety:)

FraterPerdurabo: Blizzard is not Epic. Blizzard has consistently displayed commitment to delivering an absolutely top-notch end product. Not even to mention their constant support for older games, which very, very, very few developers do. Unless this changes, I will stick to purchasing and playing their games.
avatar
orcishgamer: I don't think you remember how Epic used to function for PC, then, nor the phenomenal support they gave their community of fans. I'm not saying it will happen I'm saying it has happened to an equally well regarded PC developer/publisher (actually probably better regarded than Blizzard is at this time).
And then I'll stop buying! Until this happens, any negative speculation on this topic is nothing but dirt flinging.

edit: have a look at this retrospective, if interested:

They eventually ported the Vikings over to GBA, but up until that point it was DOS, SNES, Genesis amongst others, although I personally remember it from DOS.

Probably because I didn't have millions of dollars to buy one of those other systems and one could get a demo fairly easily.

Flinging mud at Blizzard is one of my favorite pastimes!

Oh good, then I am not insane, it was on GBA, just didn't know it was a port from a previous release.

Well, this is probably useless to try to explain to you but Epic was really, really well thought of until quite a bit after UT3 was launched. Blizzard, while being rabidly defended by much of the SC2 and WOW crowd, actually lost a lot of credibility among many of its fans for their SC2 decisions and, of course, 100,000s of people have quit WOW in disgust by now.

It's fair to say, in my mind, that Epic was probably better regarded by their old PC fanbase before they fell from grace than Blizzard is now.

if i had to pick id choose Epic any day.... at least they never created a source of revenue from the lust of there players.... i hate all that is from the market in d3... using real cash makes me not care about d3 one bit
Diablo 3 is an online-only game. Diablo 3 is not a single-player game. That is the direction Blizzard as a company is moving toward: Blizzard aims to be an online-only game like NCSoft. So we should not fault Blizzard for it. That is just the direction they want to take their company and their products.

However, I personally do not play online game. Blizzard was one of my favorite game developer, but I will certainly not change my gaming habit for Blizzard. That means Blizzard, as they moving towards becoming an online-only company, has lost me as a customer quite a while ago. (i.e., the last game I bought from them was WarCraft III: Frozen Throne.) It is just that the direction Blizzard as a company is heading toward does not coincide with how I want to play my game. But there are still many companies that make high-quality single-player games, like BioWare. So I take my business to elsewhere.

Bioware lost me after mass effect 1 and the DRM nightmare of there dlc... i wont support them again... Dragons Age seem to redeem them but then again the DLC nightmare and the crap they pulled on DA2 and ME2 :(

Sadly, I bought WOW, however the last good game I bought from them was Frozen Throne:)

ME was a million times better on console for the sole reason that you didn't have to deal with their asinine PC decisions. DA:O also should have been better on console... but Laidlaw happened. Fuck DA:O console!
