Ok, so I have played through DXHR twice now and I think its time we have a thread for discussion of the ending and other themes that fit. So, as you know, there are 4 endings that can be picked, but some of them don't match up with canon. So, here's my summary of them and which are likely.
Darrow Ending: Extremely unlikely - This would mean that human augmentation would be completely outlawed and destroyed. This is just not possible given the world we have in Deus Ex, where mechs are still used.
Taggert Ending: Unlikely - This is considered one of the likely candidates for the canonical ending, but I have problems with it. First, a massive disruption in the neuropozyne supply through Versalife would have severely threatened the stability of the corporation, and it's doubtful the company would have survived, even with the Illuminati backing. Furthermore, if we look at Deus Ex, military AND civilians are being augmented. Obviously, UNATCO and MJ12 personnel are augmented. But Jordan Shea, Jojo Fine, the drug dealer in the subways, Tracer Tong (He has face augs, or at the very least a replacement jaw), all these people show that augs haven't really been regulated.
Panchea Ending: Possible, but unlikely - This is a good candidate for canon, but some things don't add up with it. The death of everyone would have severely hampered the development of augmentation. Without an explanation to the people, with so many augmented people going berzerk, it's likely that augmentations would have been outlawed or severely restricted. While Megan's research was still around to be distributed explains the augmentations people have in Deus Ex, the ending itself has too many issues to be considered for canon.
Sarif Ending: Likely scenario. In Deus Ex, people opposed to augmentations seem to be the minority, as Eliza suggested would happen. An NSF soldier comments on it early in the game, but that's really it. Jordan Shea would never be able to have her military grade augs and work in public if there was a backlash against augmented people, and the augs you see others have makes sense with Sarif's ending. Versalife would have continued to rise, continuing to supply neuropozyne until it was no longer needed, and then focusing on other areas.
Anyways, that's my take on it. There's tons more I could write to back it up, but I'll leave it at that for now. Anyone have any opposing thoughts or similar outlooks?
