Deadstone is an interesting mix of top-down action shooter and tower defense, with light RPG elements and resource management.

Features (words stolen from website, because I am lazy):
Frantic Combat:
Experience nerve wracking, top down battles with an insidious, unrelenting foe across 50 levels, on the most hostile frontier man has ever dared to set foot on: Mars. Battle the infected in three distinct mission types: Patrol, Arena, and Colonist Rescue.

Protect the Colony:
Devise a strategy and deploy defences before each patrol. Choose from 4 turrets and lay mines to create a defensive screen between the colonists and the infected. Upgrade your turrets’ stats, and research completely new abilities for them, such as the Kinetic Thumper, which releases recoil energy into a shockwave to push infected back.

Bring a Friend:
Experience the full single player campaign with a buddy in local coop.

Tools of the Trade:
Spend your hard earned credits expanding your arsenal. Choose from 16 upgradable weapons from 4 classes: pistol, shotgun, automatic, precision, and complement your selection with 5 equipment types, including flares, explosives, and armor.

Play your way:
Develop the ultimate fighter with the unfortunately acronymed S.C.A.M. (Speed, Constitution, Accuracy, Mechanics) system, which is comprised of 4 primary stats, 11 secondary stats, and over 40 perks.

Face an Evolving Enemy:
Learn how to effectively combat 6 different zombie enemies, including the soldier, commander, and the fearsome phase shambler. Contend with an enemy that attacks under the cover of night and dust storm, and even burrows under the surface to ambush you.

Twin Tales:
Experience two engaging stories, or play without if you’re just here for the action. Choose between a straight up survival narrative and a lighter, farcical take on the story.

Fight to Win:
Compete on online leaderboards for the top spot.

Casual to Hardcore:
Deadstone has 5 difficulty settings, to accommodate varying levels of skill.

And here I was thinking where I heard of that game; on ShinyLoot of course! I have watched the trailer and I must say that I didn't get the "lighter, farcical take on the story" vibe from it. Any idea what exactly it means?

not sure.... that they have a bit of 'humor' in there?

Well, it does say "Twin Tales: Choose between a straight up survival narrative and a lighter, farcical take on the story." That sounds to me like choosing between a story that is either serious or a parody. Or, who knows, it might mean you can take the story as either of those two.
The graphics remind me of RIP, RIP2 and RIP3.
It's a funny top down shooter series with co-op mode in the third game.
Is it somehow related?

However: I personally am sick of tower defense mechanisms by now.
Too many TD games in the smartphone era and in flash gaming too.

ok, I have tried B for a bit now. It is exactly the same as A (including tutorial and system messages) except the NPC's dialogues are silly.

Oh, I see. By the way, on Shiny Loot the game uses an offline serial activation. Is that the same case if you buy the game from the developer's site?

Yes, you get a 1-time activation key in the mail. I guess it is the exactly same system.

I see. Thanks for the info. I'll try out the demo and see if it is to my tastes.
Hi there,

I'm the developer for Deadstone. Sorry I didn't see this earlier, or I would have dropped in to talk about the game. Since the initial release in July, I've spent pretty much every day working on the game. Reviews from critics and feedback from players proved incredibly useful, and after writing every bit of criticism down, I had a really useful roadmap for where to focus my efforts. I've posted a brief rundown of the bigger changes made in the three updates below.

If you have any questions about the game, feel free to ask : )

Daithi

- Survival mode: Was introduced in 1.01 and received a major overhaul in 1.03. In this mode, you pick your weapons, build up your character, and fight it out for a high score in the arena. The better you perform, the more starting resources you will have for subsequent rounds.
- Buildings have been added to the campaign map. These buildings become damaged over time, change according to the current environmental conditions (night, dust storm) and cause bullets to ricochet.
- There are now twice as many enemies in the campaign, but they are weaker. This helps make the game more frantic, while retaining the difficulty
- Enemies and player now move 15% faster
- Weapons rebalanced, with +50% more ammo, + 15% firing speed
- 15 new perks
