HomerSimpson: I would endorse Carpenter's The Thing, as well. Also, if you haven't seen it (and I'd be surprised if you haven't), you might want to check out the original Alien. One of the best sci-fi/horror films of all time imo.

GoJays2025: Agreed on Alien. One of the few movies to terrify me beyond belief, although watching it at the age of 7 or 8 probably contributed to that.

Another movie that scared the crap out of me was Event Horizon. When I was about 14 or so I was home alone one night and saw it come on TV. Thinking it was like a harmless sci-fi movie, I stayed to watch... afterwards I literally could not sleep for 3 days in a row. Thinking about it still gives me the creeps to this day.

I was always partial to Phase IV instead of Them! myself, as killer ant movies go. I too grew up on classic horror films, and to this day The Exorcist can make me huddle under the covers with my eyes closed. :)

The Exorcist is a fantastic horror film (I also liked the aforementioned Event Horizon). Just this past weekend, the wife and I watched The Last Exorcism. While it may never go down as a classic, I thought it was quite good and would be worth a rental for a horror movie fan.
I'm not much of a fan of horror movies, but if I am to watch one, I prefer ones about serial killers, preferably with some sort of psychological aspects.

I watched Event Horizon with a Christian Youth Group during a month we were discussing the nature of human violence. it was an interesting group to say the least, and a good movie.
Phantasm, the series. They had these little silver balls that would drill into people's heads. Scared the shit out of me as a kid.

Hell yeah! The ball rocked! And the Tall Man! Just got home and remembered another great one, High Tension. Some of those French movies are pretty good! :)

Listen to this man. Phantasm is great. I've only seen 1 and 2 though.
