hi all.
--the dosbox configuration utility does not work!

Once upon a time I installed Darklands on an old win98 computer. It played so-so, I was mystified about this here game and I jumped at the chance to buy GOG's version.

good, my win7 runs it well, although my 17" monitor would like to show this game in a higher resolution. And...Gog has provided a dosbox utility to set the resolution and other things. Good.

but it does not work!

All i get is an error message, when i try to save the changes,
"error: game is not installed"!
but it is, of course.
I even tried moving the Utility into several folders withing the Darklands folder, no good.
Is this an issue where win7 puts files elsewheres like the documents/user section?
do i need to change the compatibility to win xp?
Is there some stupid-to-me oversight that i overlooked?
the darklands in 1280 x 1080 might look much much better!
gog put this here utility here, there must be a reason for this utility to be here, thus it should be made to save my changes!

thanks for any light that anyone can shine upon this.

Hmm, it should work. In the meantime you can go into the install folder and edit the configuration manually to change that setting. It's really not the correct solution, but for the number of times that you're likely to want to change it, it should work fine.
Start the configuration app using the shortcut in the game start menu folder.

thank you!
so simple, I thought that I missed something obvious! I usually play game from the desktop shortcuts.
looks much better in 1280! on my other more powerful computer I might even try a higher resolution.

Good to hear you got that sorted out. Why don't you try changing the scalling engine? The super2xsai, HQ3x are great IMO. And you can always revert to the normal one if you feel retro works better. ;)
