gamebin: I would have bought Riven at full price a long time ago if it was the DVD version like STEAM.
Something important to note, I don't think the Steam version is any easier to get working on modern computers than the original is. I think it is LITERALLY the DVD version. From my understanding of GOG's version, they may have done something to allow more recent versions of QuickTime to be used. If the videos are compressed more efficiently then that would account for the smaller size.

pawelgr5: Myst Masterpiece Edition was my choice for this weekend. If I like it, I buy other games in short future!
Good choice!

I don't know because nobody from GoG has ever clarified the compression used for Riven, so all I can do is assume the worst. I would gladly replace my current DVD-ROM with this version if a member of the GoG team would actually acknowledge or disprove the various "evidence" of lower quality visuals.

I'm just wondering, I'm sure Myst has a great atmosphere since that's what it seems to be famous for, but what about plot? About 80-90% of my enjoyment of these sorts of games comes from the dialogue, characters and plot. I'm pretty sure, looking at screenshots over the years, that Myst doesn't have much dialogue or characters, but it's harder to discern what sort of plot it has. It could be a subtle, implied storyline, sort of like ICO, or it could just be that it has a profound story that you just can't discern from random screenshots.

What plot and story you do get comes mainly from journals and notes you find, which are also essential to figuring out the various puzzles you encounter. There are few spoken lines.
OK, well I'll give it a shot. It's only £2.69, which is less than half a movie ticket and also less than a pint of beer. I can't really go wrong for that price.
If it would include Myst 3 to 5, I would consider this deal, but I just dont like buying half of series... :S
Titles on promo usually end up on the bestsellers list of the front page. Not so with this one. In fact, the list still shows no movement from the past couple of weeks. Top three are still Broken Sword, Baldur's Gate, and Age of Magic. Just an observation. I still love GOG, though.
