Wait.. what? GOG won't let you just buy DLC for a game you own elsewhere?

You could still buy the DLC, if you don't own the base game there, there's a warning though.

I just tried with AI War DLC pack

but since i didn't proceed through the checkout, its possible it doesn't allow to do it.

There is a warning and I thought I was doing it wrong till I gifted it to myself. But I did not have the base game and that is where it went all down hill. Did not have the base game for gog.com

Thank you. I was determined at the time to buy it. Now I own it for steam as well and customer service for gog finally got back to me.

You can't. At least not if you don't use the "gift" method. As evidenced by the screenshot, the "Complete Order Now" button is a lighter shade of green which means that it's unclickable.

You can as evidenced by the fact that someone gifted themselves the DLC without owning the base game here. However, we cannot guarantee that our version of the DLC will work with a version of the game bought elsewhere as each distributor has their own methods of how things are installed and we can't account for that when making our installers :)

When I say "just buy", I mean.. just buying it, without having to do a strange, undocumented workaround.

angelofmercy85: Early Saturday morning. And have not gotten a reply yet from the company
I realize you've heard from them now, but do keep in mind that the delay was partially due to the fact they don't work on the weekends. At this time as well, I believe there's a bit of a backlog in Support tickets due to the update of the site.

On a side note, there's absolutely no indication whatsoever that GOG provides Steam keys. No Steam logo, no Steam-style key numbers, no warning that a third party client is required, nothing. I don't understand why people assume GOG sells keys for the Steam platform.

Literacy isn't a requirement here. :P
The other day someone asked if we served lunch, I said we are a Bed & Breakfast, he said "So?", I said "How exactly do you get 'lunch' from the term Bed & Breakfast?" XD

Because nearly every other shop does?

But I agree that people could at least read the FAQ, before they try to buy something from a shop they don't know.

Why should we allow someone to outright buy our version of a DLC when they'll end up needing a refund due to the fact that our installer is probably not going to work with a different distributor's version of the base game? Serious question.

Keep in mind that we prevent an outright purchase of a DLC if someone doesn't own the game here in order to save a person their time and possibly money due to whatever bank fees and such, not to mention our own time with having to deal with a support request that could've been prevented beforehand.

We don't know how other distributors package a given base game and we certainly cannot be expected to know such things.

In the old days, you could buy a physical game in one store, buy the expansion in another, and everything would work just as intended. Unfortunately, digital distribution does not work that way.

With a different time zone?

Maybe I'm different, but I don't assume that a shop is selling Steam keys unless I see the Steam logo on the game page and the shop specifically tells me it's selling Steam keys.
I am genuinely surprised that the OP isn't downrated yet, as usually the mention of steam and keys gets that done :D

I joke, of course.

Kinda silly though, to use the gift option to obtain a DLC for a game you don't own in here.
