This might be interesting to some of view. It's very easy to follow and works with many of the GOG games.

I might follow up with a tutorial specifically aimed at getting GOG games to run and be able to tweak all the settings. Let me know if you want any specifics covered.

This is a short tutorial which teaches you to set-up a portable DOSBox on a USB Flash drive using PortableApps.

Firstly I'm really impressed with PortableApps. It's very handy if you're out and about a lot and don't want to carry a computer with you.

There are heaps of PortableApps available and all your documents, settings, bookmarks, music and so on are stored on your USB flash drive.

I cover the following few steps:

1. How to format your USB flash drive
2. How to download and install PortableApps
3. A quick overview of PortableApps
4. How to download Apps
5. How to download and install DOSBox portable
6. How to configure the DOSBox config file to improve picture and audio quality
7. How to tell DOSBox to automatically mount your DOS Games

There is a portable version of D-Fend Reloaded, an easy configuration tool and GUI for DosBox. It has Dosbox already included, you just need to download and unpack the zip-package. It works also with ScummVM, but for this you need to download it unpack in a subfolder.

Hey I use D-Fend reloaded quite a bit :) Might do a Video based on that then?

EDIT: Hey that worked brilliantly!

Adding Apps manually to PortableApps is very easy to do. I think I will follow up with a Tutorial on how to add D-Fend reloaded in portable to mode onto a PortableApps enabled USB flash drive.

And then elaborate on how to add various games from Steam and GOG.com that use DOSBox.

Sounds interesting and helpful. I watched your video, very well done. I also recognized that you played Monkey Island, so I guess it would be interesting to explain and show how D-Fend works with ScummVM. It's just a small extrastep and reduces many problems like bugfixes, speedproblems or audioconfiguration.
Yea that sounds like a good idea!

D-Fend reloaded is very user friendly and that might appeal to the beginners out there who just want to enjoy these classic games :D
Today I got ScummVM going as well.

And guess what, it also works in Portable mode! So no matter what drive letter your USB flash memory drive receives, the games just work.

And another plus is that ScummVM has MT-32 emulation built in. As long as you place the two MT-32 Rom files in the ScummVM directory and set the D-Fend Reloaded option to MT-32 you're good to go :)

Tested it with Fate of Atlantis and also Space Quest 3 and Space Quest 4.

Quite please with the result as I can now build a massive PC Retro USB stick and play wherever I want :D
Yep, D-Fend is really great. I saw you did another video, but I didn't had the time yet to watch all. It seems it's more than just a tutorial, a little nostalgia trip ;-)

D-Fend i'ts really the best way to manage old games on windows computer. The way to save documents, get information from mobygames (cover, genre, publisher, developer, release year), edit mulitple games and backup or install multiple games the same time. At the moment my backup space is limited and I just save the prop file for my GOG games, but in the long I want to backup everything completely with D-Fend.

Interesting, didn't know about this D-Fend.
