To be honest, the main reason for the edit is the same as the reasoning behind putting "Do not take orally" on Hemorrhoid cream ;)

Oh, and the importance of the area is that it was the site of a major Japanese Air Base.

So that is the correct answer. I will google the word "Wewak", never heard of it until today. But it sound familiar, kinda Indonesian related/sounding.
