hedwards: That's true, also if something has damaged the fans or if the aren't getting enough juice, overheating can cause this sort of slowing as well.

However, a bad power supply is definitely within the realm of possibility. Especially if it's been worked near capacity for too long.

liquidsnakehpks: it is the problem 450w is what he has and the system requirement is over 500w [600w + at peak ] , hope he does not damage the pc more before its too late. i lost my motherboard with the same mistake [ i had 300w and the pc needed +450w]
Very few PCs actually need 500-600W. That's a myth. Only high-end rigs that are overclocked or kitted out with high-end GPUs need that.

But a crappy 450W power supply probably doesn't even furnish 250W.

And there is still no evidence whatsoever that this is the OP's actual problem. Adfvising the OP to replace a power supply when it is not known to be the problem is irresponsible.

any pc these days which use a good graphics card requires 500w minimum, i have seen similar issues and replacing the psu with a better rated one was the best solution, hes pmed me the problem. Its a new system so a drive failure or a software problem is doubtful.
but i could be wrong, i have suggested from what i felt had the same issues with my own system.

Well I have 14 days guarantee for refund if PSU replacement does not work, so no problem there
Slowing down, stop responding and crashing are three different conditions

the usual suspects for me would be

- excessive heat ( lack of thermal interface on the CPU, ill functionning CPU cooler, defective CPU ).
- failing or badly installed memory module

However, other causes cannot be excluded

- conflict or issue with one of the pci cards
- hard disk drive
- psu

could you please post your system's specifications ?
