Released in August of 1982 we can celebrate the birthday of the legendary Commodore 64. The machine had over 10000 software titles released for it during the time of its reign, granted most of that number games.

We had a sad loss April this year when the founder of Commodore Jack Tramiel died at the age of 83, his legacy will live on with many fond memories of THE GREATEST home computer ever created.

But what an awesome machine, Happy Birthday C64, may your legacy enlighten gamers for years to come!!

HEXUS have done a great little article on the machine :

30 years and still working!
/me tenderly pets his machines.
30 more!:)
It was surely a better time. And I'm not even 30 yet ;-)
I've just plugged in my UK C64GS for the first time in years and had a round of Fiendish Freddy and Flimbo's Quest. It didn't work on my old TV because it only supported the German PAL standard, but most modern-ish flatscreen TVs with RF receivers do have PAL-I support.

Very tempted to buy a proper used C64 again somewhere, in the hope that it works of course. Games are a problem, as most of the magnetic discs (and tapes) that games were sold on are no longer usable, but you can still buy blank tapes and copy TAP files onto them for the genuine experience.
I sold mine years ago. STUPID ME!!!! :(((
My C64 is still working perfectly (my father got it in 1985). I still play it sometimes and my brother is always asking why I don't use some emulators... but it's simply not the same - I totally love green monitor and loading from tapes!
I was a spectrum owner so always had good fights with my 64 friends. Great machine and seeing some of the old games brings back fond memories.

STUPID US :-(

I wish I had a garage similar to the one Willy had in Alf TV Show. Unfortunately I own only a small flat and my wife is very...reluctant when I mention about buying some retro hardware..

Appeal to her inner child and sense of nostalgia.

Or maybe, don't. Otherwise you may fall victim to a "In Soviet Poland..." trope.

I had one of them. I was in a very, very distinct minority here. It was like owning a Dragon 32 in the UK. No software available and nobody else you know who had one. All my stuff came from the UK.

I stockpiled C64s in the late 90s when everyone was giving them away. I'm sure there's enough in the closet of my old room at my dad's place to produce at least one working one.

Hope all the drives work because I had cut the solder to make them 8,10,11, 12.
