meh. Why? Why EA?
Oh man, not another pay-2-win crap.
This thread is exactly the reason why the industry is not taking gamers seriously anymore.

"Oh look, a game nobody has played yet. It must suck"

I'm actually hoping it will be good - I really enjoyed C&C3, Generals wasn't quite as good but it was a decent game on it's own, so I am hoping it will be something different me and my brother can try multiplayer. :)
If anyone likes to see how a Free2Play RTS was done right (still in development for quite a long time, but it is a game of a friend of mine that started as a Browser Game many years ago).

- Always free to play (no way to pay anything to increase your power)
- Everyone starts on his own island and will not be able to be attacked until he leaved the island
- NPC Characters walking around to attack you

Game is set in a fantasy world, so might not attract people who are only in Sci-Fi, but give it a try ;)

I don't think EA will give the game half the love your friend has, sadly.

SimonG: C&C Generals wasn't a proper C&C to begin with. And I haven't played the game yet, so I can't really say if it is good or bad. But Age of Empires F2P has seen some praise, so maybe this is also worthy to check out.
"Fuckz you, noooooobz!"

"Oh yeah?! Well I'll just play offline skirmishes like normal!.....oh wait.."

Fenixp: Want a proper followup to generals? Play Act of War: Direct Action. Yes, complete with cheesy movie sequences.
I actually like AoW2 much more than Generals. Even despite its shitty "SAEV TEH AMERICUH!!1!" story.

It has? I remember remember something along the lines of "gameplay is good, but the missions become repetitive very soon and the prices and pay2win system are ridiculous" (there were at least a few reviewers who voiced such opinions).
The comic-like style was probably meant to "broaden their target audience".

Anyway, the reason I dug out this thread:
http://www.vg247.com/2012/08/20/command-conquer-generals-2-no-single-player-campaign-at-launch/
Sounds like a "real" free2play model. Core game for free, everything else (campaign, units, etc) must be paid for (if it is developed at all). I'll just wait and see what people say when it's released. If there is overwhelming praise, I'll go check it out, and otherwise ignore it. Actually, I think the latter is more likely...

Well, a few of my friends have played it regularly and the wikipage list a few positive opinions.

And I just realized that C&C Generals 2 is developed by Bioware. That explains the gamerage...

The studios just share the name, nothing more, afaik. The actual developer of this game is Victory Studios which was renamed to Bioware Victory after EA bought them. Probably to cash in on Bioware's popularity, but apparently it is not working with some people.

Damn, every game session will end in an orgy involving each sentient being on the map.

I suppose this is true, although it seems a bit weird as Bioware is known for RPGs, not RTS's.
Interesting fact: The Wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioWare_Victory says it was integrated into the Bioware label in Dec2011, while the BioWare page itself does not mention Victory or Generals.

Look at it from the bright side, at least they are doing something about C&C in their games and the whole division is lead by Van Caneghem.
