The original was released back around '99, but the Steam release has far nicer graphics so I assume it's a reworking of the original or something. (Google Play mentions "Thumbstar Games Ltd" while the other releases fall under Codemasters.)

Any word on a GOG release, tfishell?

Vote for it on the wishlist:

With this re-release, it makes me hopeful that the Codemasters racing games that GOG used to sell (before I joined) could return to the catalog. Vote for them:

Don't count on it. Those games were removed from GOG (and everywhere else) because the games' license with the car manufacturers expired and wasn't renewed. Codemasters would have to negotiate a new car license deal for those old games in order to be able to sell them again, which is probably a lot more expensive than it's worth.

Isn't that what they did with this release, getting the rights to all the cars featured in the original game? I'm just saying there's now a precedent and maybe it's not as expensive an undertaking as you make it out to be.

Cool. It would be nice to see Colon Mcrae here again.
This looks more like Colin McRae Rally 2 (2000) than 1, also the original didn't have the Ford Focus and Lancia Stratos as far as I remember.

I was also surprised to see SRS Street Racing Syndicate (2005) was released a while ago, apparently the car licenses hadn't expired yet or maybe extended.
GTR, GTR 2, GT Legends are also oldies that are still being sold, altough GTR 2 has the Porsches and Ferrari's removed, which is strange as they're still in GTR.

Now if GOG could only get their hands on Grand Prix Legends, Richard Burns Rally and Mobil 1 Rally Championship (aka Rally Championship 2000). =P

That's cause it's based on Colin McRae Rally 2 as the description says:

"From the developers of the multi-million selling franchise and based on content from the 90% Metacritic rated Colin McRae Rally 2.0, Colin McRae Rally for Windows PC features THIRTY amazing rally stages with a combined distance of over 130km."

Clearly not the original game but more a remake based on the second game.

No clue, sorry. Check the Codemasters website for a contact email, if you want to contact them about it.
Yes, it will be great to have a new racing game on GOG because I'm sincerely fed up with the puzzle-platforming wave :-p
Colin McRae 1,2,3,4 or 5 because each one is a pearl.
Else Test Drive Unlimited as one the best sandbox racing game of these last years.
Just a heads-up; According to Gamespot, this is a port of the mobile port (Yo Dawg) indeed.

Indianapolis 500 would be a nice addition.
Graphicwise it must be horrible to watch these days, but historically that game is so important in the racing genre that it deserves to be added to the catalog.

Unless I'm mistaken, it was the first game where you could really extensively tweak the car settings to improve performance, like adjust different tyre pressures on both sides of the car to correspond to different levels of tyre wear that an oval track causes.
Castrated version . Not worth the money .

There's a big difference between buying a license for a new release that you expect to sell many copies of, and buying a license for an old release that you don't expect will sell very well.

Also "precedent" is probably not an applicable concept in this case. If they had renewed the license for TOCA Race Driver 3, you could see that as a precedent indicating they might do the same for Colin McRae Rally 2005, but that is not the case here.

That much is clear from the trailer. It looks like a mobile game, not a PC game.
