First closed beta access keys distributed today!

We're excited to announce the launch of the closed Windows and Mac OS X multiplayer beta of CD Projekt RED's board game tie-in to the universe of Geralt of Rivia - The Witcher Adventure Game. Participants of the closed beta program will be among the first to help test and refine some of the multiplayer components of our upcoming GOG Galaxy service. The number of beta access codes we'll send out today will be limited, and the recepients will be picked among the users who have pre-ordered [url=http://www.gog.com/thewitcher3/en]The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on GOG.com (each selected participant will be getting a set of two keys: one for them and one to give away to a friend). With the distribution of next batches of invitations planned as the event advances, players interested in joining the tests can still navigate to GOG.com/Galaxy and sign up for a chance to participate.

The Witcher Adventure Game takes players on a journey across the world of the Witcher as they assume the roles of four distinct characters known from the books and video games: Geralt of Rivia, monster slayer; Triss Merigold, cunning sorceress; Yarpen Zigrin, dwarven warrior; and Dandelion, roguish bard. Each character has unique skills and multiple ways of overcoming obstacles - the choice is yours: do you fight your way to victory, call on your charm or try your hand at diplomacy? It's the true spirit of board gaming brought straight to your computer screen. Set in the mature and brutal world of The Witcher the game features 4 unique heroes with different skills and approaches to problem solving. With clear, simple rules and intuitive mechanics, tons of quest cards allow players to tell a new tale every time they play. Look adventure in the eye in a world you'll fall in love with!

The purpose of the beta is to test both The Witcher Adventure Game as well as some parts of the GOG Galaxy online infrastructure powering the multiplayer portion of the digitized board game. Over the course of the beta, new cards, mechanics and improvements will be added to polish the game further and deliver you the best possible experience - if you find yourself among the number of beta testers, please stay with us and check for updates regularly. We really do count on your feedback!

Finally, a short but important notice: while the beta is limited to the online portion of the game only, rest assured that the full game will also feature single-player modes such as “hot seat” and “human vs AI”. In other words yes, the game won't be exclusively multiplayer, and you will be able to play it offline, outside our optional GOG Galaxy client.

figgymanna: I thought Witcher 3 pre-order guaranteed you two beta keys.
Yes, this is correct - every user who pre-ordered TW3 on GOG will receive two keys: one for them and one for their friend. We're only just started sending the keys out, so they will be delivered in batches, to scale everything properly and offer best possible game stability and experience :). Nevertheless every person will receive their two keys and it's not going to be a very long wait - don't worry!

Wait... wtf... doesn't Witcher 3 pre-order guarantee you 2 beta keys?
I thought Witcher 3 pre-order guaranteed you two beta keys.
Pants... shit
I am really looking forward to the GOG Galaxy.
The game looks interesting.

BUT

this does NOT look like an adventure game.
I know that the term has lost it's original meaning a long time ago. Still, it bothers me to see games advertised as adventure games even though they are not.

PS. The last time that I went to a GAME store and asked for new adventure games they showed me Skyrim...
PS 2. Keep up the good work GOG. I really mean it

Yeah, this news is a bit off-putting... Hopefully they're just sending out the keys in waves so they don't immediately overload whatever Galaxy servers they have set up.
Looking forward to hearing back from those lucky enough to get in at first.

Why is it called an "adventure game" when it looks like a computerized board game?

It does! All of the people who pre-ordered The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on GOG.com will be granted 2 The Witcher Adventure Game keys, eventually. We're just starting the beta program now, and the keys are being distributed at first come - first served basis.

And yes, by beta access keys, we do mean a set of two keys for each participant. So, if you're one of those people who get an e-mail from us today, rest assured that it will contain two keys, one for you, and one for another person so that we're sure you'll have someone to play with.

Oh, and YES: this means that there's a possibility of some extra keys making their way to the forums from the hands of generous Goggers!

EDIT:
Oh, damn. Ninja'd by the Mysterious Man in Red ;-)

Thanks for clearing that up so quickly! I appreciate the info, and I'm looking forward to trying the beta sometime soon. :)

G-Doc:
Is there any way to preorder the collector's edition (I'm a sucker for sculpture items) and still get a GOG key? Probably too late for the Witcher Galaxy Beta Double Pre-Beta event, but just wondering.
Thank you, GOG team.
Awesome! I can't wait to try this out.

Do we know the system requirements yet?

Sadly, you cannot order the physical collector's edition via GOG.com.

I'm sorry, but we're yet to develop technology that would allow us to ship physical bonuses (like the sculpture) digitally. Maybe some future games will come with 3D-printable goodies.

Come to think of it, that would be quite fitting for a particular futuristic CD Projekt RED title I have in mind ;-)

It was asked to GoG when the pre-orders were revealed, but at the time the answer was:
"We currently cannot comment on whether or not it will be possible to redeem a backup copy of The Witcher 3 on GOG. We may have more information to share towards the end of the preorder."
