Classic Gem Promo: Stronghold Crusader HD

Stronghold Crusader HD, an epic castle sim RTS in which you build and maintain outposts in the desert, turn them into prospering towns, and lead armies up to 10k units to conquer the Holy Land, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the next 24 hours!

In the medieval times, war was something completely different. It was fought with sword and arrow, it was heavier, sweatier and lasted for generations. If you were to attack a distant land, it would take months to get your army there. Once it reached its destination, it would need more than just a camp to launch and maintain a military campaign. Over the months of conflict, the outpost would grow and turn into towns, that would serve as home not only for the troops, but also merchants, craftsmen, entertainers, and all sorts of shady characters. It took more than just tactical talent to win wars back then. See for yourself!

Stronghold Crusader HD is the ultimate edition of FireFly Studios' brilliant RTS. It includes the Stronghold Warchest and Stronghold Crusader content, now presented in HD resolution. Our pack also comes with the classic Stronghold Crusader that lets you experience the game on less high-end machines. With a robust supply of missions and gameplay modes, this one can keep up with all your strategy needs!

Let the historical campaign commence! Get Stronghold Crusader HD 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 until Tuesday, March 26, at 10:59AM GMT.
Great, I always wanted to try this one but never got to do it :)
Thanks!
What's Crusader compared to the original stronghold like? I have the first stronghold game but i haven't played it yet so i'd like to know if there's any major difference between those two games.
Never tried these games before (and i like RTS's). Hmmm

I LOVED both games but liked this one even more than the first.

I've read a few critics too who have said they think Crusader is the best of the series (it goes down from here apparently -- haven't played more than the first two though, so couldn't corroborate that :)

Crusader mechanics are pretty much the same as the original Stronghold, only in the desert with more threat of fires.
Personally i didn't like crusader as much, even the Single-player campaign is really only a series of skirmishes with no narrative, unlike the original stronghold. All skirmishes are loosely historical, but that's as far as it goes.

Basically, if you want a good single player campaign, go with Stronghold, if you want some nice skirmishing and harder battles, go with Crusader.

For multi-player, go with Crusader, it has everything stronghold had and more

Keep in mind, that you can play the original Crusader in HD too. It's not clearly said, but you can play the old crusader in SD (if you want...) and in HD too. I'm telling you that, because Crusader Extreme isn't that good. But you can totally ignore it and play the vanilla goodness in HD :-)

And extra characters to install are cool as well.
Yeah, this and the original are fantastic. Great blend of economy management and combat and looks gorgeous for a 2D game. A few niggling issues here and there, but really just charming and fun. A simple tip for any new players: use the spacebar to flatten the walls and buildings to help with constructing defenses. It's real easy to leave gaps otherwise, so avoid the frustration.

As for the sequels, I can't speak for the newest entry, but Stronghold 2 was immensely disappointing. Terribly bland graphics, laughably bad campaign... Seriously, it's amateurish rubbish. I don't think Firefly was ready to delve into 3D.

If you like RTS, I recommend to try this one. It is a very good game. I have enjoyed the game when I bought the Stronghold Collection and tried this and the original game in 2011.

and if you already have the original (non-HD) version, you can just download the HD patch for free (for original Stronghold, Crusader, and Crusader Extreme) at FireFly studios website. The patch is not for Steam version though. I just found the patch today after checked at FireFly website. I thought I need to buy separate game version to get the HD feature.

Yep, but it has DRM.

I don't buy anything at Gamersgate anymore. Not since they went all-Steam-all-of-the-time.

I am a RTS junky but to be honest I always thought the Stronghold games were a little too much work than what I was used too. I recommend them to people that love RTS games AND Civ/City planners because it definitely has loads of both, and in a very good way if that is your taste.

Great Game & Great Price enough said.
Great promo although it would be way more effective if GOG hadn't convinced me to buy it months ago. That said, I only played the predecessor but not this one so far.

Well yeah, if you want the base-building stage of your RTSs to be extremely simple and fast Stronghold may not be the best series for you.

This collection is DRM-free:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SOZC02?ie=UTF8&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links

But it costs $19.99 and the only two good games are Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader. The other games included are not really good.
