Downloading at 75.9 kb/sec. I love some of these games from 1998 but did they get the servers from that time period also?

I installed the gog downloader. It is bouncing between low 40s to 80 kb/sec.

Any tips to increase download speed?

This is like the good old days of dial-up. Well, back to my rotary phone and manual typewriter to get some work done before my freakin' lantern runs out of oil.

You might just want to try again another time - sometimes I've gotten slow connection speeds (mostly on my end I think, though maybe GOG's too) but I get 3+ mbps from GOG when the connection I'm using is good.

Oh god that's a brilliant idea. GOG should have a throttle option to give you the old download speeds - a slight increase in speed when browsing the site with images turned off, all of it.

You're lucky, the 56k service around here topped out at 9kbps if I was lucky, and most of the time it would drop pretty quickly to half that.

Your Internet access was that fast in 1998? Wow.

When I was on 56k dial-up in late 90's I got between 4 and 6 KB/sec.
75.9 is ADSL speeds. Although I get the feeling we are all getting our wires crossed between Kb and KB :)

YOU are lucky... My cable internet was topping 12kbps several years ago.

Why don't you try to use the browser build in downloader instead of the GoG one? I always download my games via browser and my speed is equal to the speed of my provider.

I live within about 5 miles of a major internet exchange point, and the local telecoms don't care about providing us with decent service. Of course I live in the US so the government doesn't care either as long as large corporations are making huge sums of money.

Man 75kb/s is good. In 1998 it took hours to download a megabyte for me. I loved watching images slowly draw down the screen lol. I remember how excited I would be when a demo finished downloading, because it would take all day. And then halfway through someone would pick up the phone and ruin everything. Gah, that was annoying as heck.

Okay, so some people need to differentiate between KB and Kb. Most downloaders measure things in Bytes (uppercase B), while modems and ISPs usually measure things in bits (lowercase b). A bit, of course, is only an eighth of a byte, so a 56 kbps modems only got a theoretical maximum of 7 KB/s (sometimes increased by compression methods, but in most cases not).

I currently have a 15 Mbps connection, which usually tops out around 2 MB/s. Of course, GOG does tend to be slower than some other download services, in that I can't recall ever getting anything more than 1 MB/s from them. Usually if I get something as low as 76 kb/s I'll try again a bit later and get better results, though.
