I grabbed SimCity 2000 yesterday. I hadn't played it in years so I installed it on my Vista laptop just to make sure it worked properly.

Several hours later I was fairly well convinced that it did indeed work as expected but . . . as I explained to the wife . . . it will require even more testing to be absolutely sure. . . ; )

Loved your post, Stuff :D
Oh Yeah, SimCity 2000 is so like DA bomb. ;-D I've already got a thriving metropolis of over 60,000 and it's just the year 1927. I don't think I ever did that good before without a cheat code. :) Can't wait to get ARCOS as soon as they are discovered. :)
Caesar II was the city builder I fell in love with and would love to play again the most, as well as Pharaoh, another classic game I adore. Right now though, I am basking in the glory of Simcity 2000 and eyeing Caesar III for another play through later, all thanks to GOG. 8-)

Hehe, I've had a blast playing SimCity again. I really didn't mean to play more than a few minutes but found myself pulled into the game play. I had forgotten how addictive city building can be. I would also welcome more city building games here on GOG.

I am trying to resist another "short" session as I type but the wife says she will not be happy if I disappear again . . . =)

Edit: 60,000?? 1927?? I REALLY need to get back to the game now !!

Ooops it turns out it's only 1926 ;P I'll, post a pic to prove it. As far as no cheating goes, well, I can't prove that, but, besides editing the terrain (guilty!), I haven't cheated to get money or anything. :) Don't waste time talking friend! Your city needs you! ;D

Nice city ! Flat does help, I just started on the first map given . . . after all . . I'm just playing for a few minutes. I'm in 1992 and struggling with decisions I made concerning the terrain and large layout. Hummnn, maybe a new game to further test this old software??

The wife hates it when I snap my fingers and start moving towards the computer like she can't see me . . . =)

Edit: lol, tried to zoom in on your city . . . duh

haha! I know, there is something about this game, you get one glimpse of the screen and it just sucks you in. :-) I hope you got to play some, your wife must understand, games are good for ones health, they reduce stress and limit arguments, afterall, you will be too busy to hear her complaining about you, right? ;D
Anyways, I got some play time in today, and my city (now in year 1954) has blossomed to over 110,000 souls...I'm taking in around 6,000 net income a year, not bad, and should be ready to place a few Arcos when they finally get invented. I remember years ago, thinking how very hard it was to get those ARCOS quickly, now here I am, I could just cheetah to them now really. :) Anyways, posted a few more pics, most of them up close, hope it doesn't get you into trouble with the wife! 8-D

Awesome city, I assume you have disasters turned off?? . . . =)

My Lady is an avid gamer herself (prefers RPG's) so she will probably build a city now that SimCity is installed. We don't have much time for gaming nowadays but try to play as often as we can. My SimCity marathon was unusual as 1 or 2 hrs is our normal game time allotment so she was giving me a hard time in jest . . . =)
I am impressed by your city KOCollins.
I have just checked, mine has a population of just 11500 by 1945! lol
And less than a quarter of the map.
But I see we don't have the same approach, I use a lot of light residential, and don't level the terrain: I want it to be a little pittoresque :)
Love this game; played so many hours when I was a kid. Looking at the screenshots though, I wish we had a bigger field to play with. It looks smaller than I remember it. Anyway, it would be great to have a bigger area as I remember things got a little less interesting once the whole place was filled out.

That said, I remember laying out a complex structure on paper and with time having a plethora of Arcos in my city. Crime was rampant, despite police stations all over the place, but we had a population of millions.

Tempting to buy the game again, but then I know I wouldn't get anything done ;)

Correct, I didn't want the first city I have made for a long time to be decimated in a hurricane or earthquake and spoil all that beauty. :) Yet, now I am feeling like I didn't play the game as challenging as I should have, it was tooo easy :P...So, I may just start over on hard level (I started the one above on medium), without editing the terrain and with the disasters on...If I can get a Arco in my city with that, without taking past say, 2055, I will consider myself a true simcity genius. Wish me luck. It's going to be fun! 8-D
Thanks for the compliments all :D This game is just as brillant as it was when it first came out, so long ago now. Good luck with your cities! =)

IMHO, gaming should first be about fun . . . your city looks like it would have been fun to build. I may start a new one that is similar. Great thing about this game is you can try tons of strategies and difficulties.

I think my brother would like SimCity as well but he has never played it. I will probably start him out with a cash cheat so he can focus on learning the game . . . =)
