Well if it really is true that signing up will deny him the ability to not use it on other sites, then I can certainly see why he might want to use PayPal instead. As a side note. Master Card has an equivalent system. (SecureCode).

I use Visa but I don't remember signing up for VbV. Been a few years though.
What stopped my GOG purchases was running NoScript in Firefox. Disabling NoScript removed the problem. Always have trouble remembering to re-enable it . . .=)
foolishly signed up to VbV a year or so back, and i've been regretting it ever since.
Doesn't seem to add any security, adds extra hassle, keeps causing problems and seems to be very open for phishing attacks. I'd say stay away.
I can't remember how i paid last time i used gog, but i guess it can't have been visa... must have been paypal i guess..
I've just purchased Disciples 2 Gold with my Visa Electron Business debit card and I've had no trouble from GOG. Just entered the card number and secure code on the back of the card and that's it.
I have purchased many items through GOG using my visa card, but not since they left beta. Now I'm scared to make a purchase on GOG with my card :(

Well, sure, that's not so bad. Debit cards are "safer" because of the fact that they can't drain your account if you can't go into minus on your card. That's my simple protection - to always have only the minimum required funds on my account, and transfer money from my main account when needed. But when you have a credit card, things usually don't go that well. If you get skimmed, and the bank refuses to share responsibility, you're basically screwed.

There's got to be a cure for that. Let me check the star spangled banner.

What is that supposed to mean?

I'm joking here. But to be fair, the "land of the free and home of the brave" thing leaves little room to maneuver.

Besides, what's the worst that could happen? Statistically speaking.

So you're saying I should gather up my balls of steel and live up to the old American stereotype of being brash and brave by throwing caution to the wind? What is the old adage that "fortune favors the bold" is that it? Well, I've always been rather cowardly, and much preferred the company of books than any other sort of manly things (that is other than drinking alcohol) so being bold is out of the question. And whats the worst thing that could happen? My credit card account could spontaneously combust!!!!!!! What is wrong with you people! :P
