Windows 7 gog downloader and what to do with the "setup_the_witcher_2-3.bin

Hi Folks,

So, I download 2.05Gb of the above file. Nothing happens. Won't run.

Go to log into GOG downloader - does not accept my login and password.

What a shambles.

OK, it was the reduced price Witcher 2 but surely the blessed install should work!

I read about UAC but come on - Windows 7 has been out for ages!

Could any kind folk point me in a direction please. What do I do? Create a .cue? file?

Thanks for any info.

Yours very disappointed - Rog of newcastle.

I think the first thing you need to do is make sure you download *all* the game files. If you only have 2 gigabytes of the game, you do not have enough. The game should be in several parts, four I think, with most of them at 2 gigs and the last one smaller. You need to get all the files, or you cannot install. That is not a problem of the installer; I think it will work for you once you download the other files.
Sounds to me like you only downloaded a fraction of the game. "setup_the_witcher_2-3.bin" is an archive used during the installation process. The entire installation package consists of the following files:

setup_the_witcher2-1.bin (2 GB)
setup_the_witcher2-2.bin (2 GB)
setup_the_witcher2-3.bin (2 GB)
setup_the_witcher2-4.bin (2 GB)
setup_the_witcher2-5.bin (1.6 GB)
setup_the_witcher2.bin (127 MB)
setup_the_witcher2.exe (2.3 MB)

You have to download all these files and then run setup_the_witcher2.exe to install the game.
Make sure you're not downloading to an FAT32 formatted drive. Witcher 2 files are too big to run on that format.

spindown: You have to download all these files and then run setup_the_witcher2.exe to install the game.
And run it as Admin.

As well, to save yourself some headaches, install outside the Programs or Programs (x86) folder. Something like C:\Games is a good choice.
Yeah.. it needs more than 2 gb. In hard drive I remember it taking 17 geebees or something.
OK, thanks folks for the quick replies.

Reckon I'm a daft old duffer. Will start again.

Cheers and fingers crossed.

Just wanted to say thanks to all who posted, and to offer my apologies for posting like a prat.

Most embarrassed.

Game works great, and thanks to GOG for the Witcher 2 discount.

Thanks again.

No apologies needed. You were polite in your request for help, and didn't blame the developer or demand a refund. As far as we're concerned, you're good.

I hope you'll enjoy the game as much as I do! Good luck!
