Great topic. I haven't read through everyone's posts yet, but look forward to it.
I have played the basics for many years - chess, yahtzee, poker, hearts, etc. Yahtzee is indeed a favorite and I spent a lot of time playing it with the ex over the last several years.
I played Magic for quite some time, getting into it during the Revised release. Attempted a couple of other CCGs. Star Wars wasn't great. Really loved Shadowfist, but never had many people to play it with. Think I still have plenty of SF cards to put together some games.
RGPs - played just a touch of D&D. Enjoyed the West End Games version of Star Wars in the 80s-early 90s. My favorite, by far, and the only P&P RPG I have played in the last 10 years is Cyberpunk 2020. Really really can't wait for the CD Projekt version!
Board games were a favorite of my youth. I got Axis & Allies in middle school and spent many a sleepless night playing that thing. So many many hours. I now have the deluxe version that includes Italy and an even bigger board, but haven't had anyone to play with in a few years. In high school (and hopefully still intact at my parents' house) I also had the other related ones - the ancient Rome game, the Shogun game, and Fortress America.
I also was into Avalon Hill/Victory Games, but players for those were always tough to find. So I resorted to Ambush! and Battle Hymn, the solitaire games. I probably first started playing around with my dad's copy of Blitzkrieg in late elementary school. :) Hopefully some games are left at my parents', but I did look the other day and found four of them with me in my current home in Seattle. Battle Hymn, 7th Fleet, one that is slipping my mind, and my favorite of all time, Victory in the Pacific. VITP was very basic, with large areas instead of hexes, but the strategies were close to limitless and very deep. Quick victories were always highly sought after and very difficult to secure.
Edit:
Also played a bit of the Axis & Allies miniatures games, but had a friend that worked for Wizards, so got mostly free stock and didn't have to buy. Collectible games (i.e. Magic) taught me to stay away from games with microtransactions, so at least there's that. :)
LiquidOxygen80: Conquest of the Empire
Shogun
Axis and Allies
Broadsides
Fortress America
Yep, that's the list! I also had Broadsides & Boarding Parties, but it was my least favorite.
