Enebias: I can also suggest you the Gothic series: the first one is the hardest,
Good call!
If you can get past the learning curve, which is a super bitch for several reasons, Gothic is a CLASSIC and despite all the redundant back & forth mission stuff typical of rpgs it never gets dull. Sad thing is I bought #2 right when I joined here and I still haven't played it. :P

Strijkbout: I suggest Dungeon Siege from your list, another suggestion would be Nox.

awalterj: NOX is the first one that came to my mind so I'll throw in another vote for that, one of my favorites.

Just how you managed to be "INB4" Groze is a mystery to me, most probably Groze is sleeping or something because it's usually Groze's job to advertise NOX.
I have beaten Groze before. =P
When I played Nox years ago, after watching the intro I thought that this games was also going on the pile of games of infamy, but once I started playing it didn't took long to realize it was really good and never got boring like so many RPG's are, so yes I completely agree with Groze there. =)

I have Nox on disc and in here and could never really get into it. I seriously need to give it another shot.

BTW sorry for hogging the forum this morning, it's kind of slow here for a change and I am currently working SIMC2K in another window so I'm bored.

I found that maximixing the one-handed weapons talent ASAP is the best way to go: you won't inflict much damage, but you'll be MUCH faster than your opponent. If you want to play dirty, there is also this trick: enter the land of the Orcs, lure a few near the guards at the entrance of the restricted area, whatch them getting slaughtered and then, when the situation calms down, reclaim the spoils. You'll get the guards' excellent equipment, like the sword that inflicts 32 damage with only a requirement of 12 in strenght. That's REALLY low, though! ;)

Blasphemer! Repent for your sin and start playing it NOW! :)

If you like Diablo and the Torchlights, Nox is similar in ways to those games.

In #1 if you are patient and hit every quest you can max both single and two handed, which comes in handy *rimshot* especially in the mines, but I heard in #2 there is only room to master one of them. Before I dive in, what is your take?
We were just discussing it elsewhere :)

It depends on the faction you choose. If you play as a Paladin, One hand+light spells is the way; usually, I also prefer one hand+crossbow for the mercenary, but the ultimate 2-handed sword (the Dragonsalyer, if I'm not mistaken) is BY FAR the best weapon in the game. With a mage, don't bother with weapons at all! :)

Far out, thanks.

I may be hitting you up for tips in the next few days. If I become a pest just let me know. :D

I shamefully admit that I didn't play NOX back in the day, instead I waited for Diablo 2 which I then eagerly purchased but got bored of quickly. It wasn't until a couple months ago that I finally gave NOX a chance, got so hooked that I played all three characters in succession. Afterwards, I craved more action and went into my basement to dig up Diablo 2 and gave it another go as well. This time, I enjoyed Diablo 2 a lot more and took several characters to Hell mode. Even bought the Lord of Destruction expansion online, decided to make an exception from my usual "don't give money to Blizzard" sentiment as Lord of Destruction is a great classic product.

Do give it another try. You can then compete with Groze, Strijkbout and me whenever it's NOX appraisal time. Deus Nox!

Btw, I used to sleep next to the computer when playing SC 2000, had plastered the entire screen with the largest arcologies and was waiting for them to fill up completely which sadly never happened to the degree I had wished for.

Gothic 1 is actually one of the games I wanted to play. The controls were hard but the fighting was fair once you got the controls. The reason I delayed was because someone on the web said Gothic 1 was on xbox. This got me no where as it isn't. I preferred to play on console but I'll have to suffice for pc. Thanks Tiny E and company!

For what its worth, I didn't hate on CofNorrath and Bg Dalliance 1 and 2. The problem with those games is that they make melee weapons almost pointless unless you were a barbarian or fighter. And even then engaging in melee with act bosses was pointless. In most games they make it hard but you find equipment and its mediocre. In any of the snow-blind games, the bosses think more intelligently than most ai and have bizarre bonuses that make going into melee pointless. If I play over Norrath again, Im mastering in magic and forgetting melee, lol.
