My Silverstone 560W is still going strong after 5 years. I'm tired of having to trim down graphical settings on some newer games, so I want to upgrade my GPU. If I want to get a Geforce 400 or 500 series, will a 560w PSU run it?

Cards up to an nVidia 560 Ti will _probably_ be okay. Can you see how power the PSU puts on the 12V rail? Also, which CPU do you have (that's the second component that draws a lot of power from the 12V rail, so the power demand of your CPU determines how much is left for your GPU)?
Currently using an old AMD X2 4200+. How do I test for power on the 12V rail?

Either see if you can find the specs of your PSU online, or check the sticker on the PSU. The sticker should list the Ampere values for each rail.
This might also help.

Thanks zmagnum. I checked the PSU calculator and the recommended PSU wattage is 411w. Minimum wattage is 361w.

The specs of the PSU is over here:

Under combined +12V, it says 480w. I suppose it's sufficient then?
The series of the card doesn't have as much to do with power consumption as where the specific card is in that range. A 520 would easily run with a 560w PSU, but a 590 would melt that.

For what it's worth, I have two computers suitable for gaming, one has a 460 and a 500w PSU, the other has a 550ti and a 380w PSU, never had any power issues with either.

Yes, should be. Pretty good for a PSU bought 5 years ago.

Cool thanks. And thanks a lot too zmagnum for the PSU calculator. It's a very useful tool.

You're most certainly welcome. My teacher in my A+ hardware class showed that to me a few years back. Really helps when doing just about any hardware upgrades.
