Crassmaster: Most definitely Mount & Blade.

doccarnby: I prefer Warband, myself.
Agreed. I meant M&B generally speaking, whether the original game or Warband.
Zeno Clash?

I also have to recommend Soldak games. I've enjoyed both Kivi's Underworld and Din's Curse.

Starkrun: There is also Dimensity Its crazy fun and its some kinda action rpg Hybrid... but its more you vs the worldish... you can base build a little bit, or raise and army or go it alone... its so odd and quirky... i love it and do not regret my purchase..
And I think you just persuaded me to pick this up from GamersGate (currently on sale for $5. I'd been on the fence about it, but you make it sound like a lot of fun - more so than the product description did.

Curse you! It is just heavily castrated Spellforce! :(

robobrien: I have played and enjoyed some of the games from Spiderweb and the two from Basilik and i'm looking for a similar kind of rpg to play over the holidays. At the moment i will probably grab another Avernum title but if there are other gems out there i would love to know.

Thanks.

Oh and i have played The Knights Of The Chalice demo.
Since you are familiar with Spiderweb, I'll refrain from going all "fanboy" on you. Suffice it to say that the Avernum series is simply the best indie RPG ever.

Runner-up is the phenomenal "Mount and Blade", which just keeps getting better and better and better.

And Honorable Mention needs to go to Dink Smallwood.. While it *barely* qualifies as an RPG (more a Zelda-style adventure), the amount of free, high-quality, fan-created content is mind-boggling, and Dink has one of the most active, friendly communities you will ever find. (and unlike the above two, which are "Shareware", Dink and all created content is 100% free.).

Yeah, look at Avernum 6. Was my CRPG of the year behind New Vegas.
Cheers for all the suggestions.

I have played quite a few already - Mount and Blade has a nice little home on my pc and is great for whenever i feel the need to dish out some 'couched lance' damage. Gonna check Depths Of Peril out but i think i may just go with Avernum 4 or 5 and wait for Spiderwebs next shake of the dice.

Thanks.

Yes but Inde style games were requested, nothing i suggest has a massively polished feel... if you wanted polish i could have recommend tons of other off beat AAA worthy titles...
