I'm stuck on the cistern level. On youtube walkthrough videos, the cistern level starts without water in this level. Yet my version has flooded with water.

Is this a glitch?

The world was young when i last played that :) still, what's the problem? Can't you just swim? Maybe you were supposed to do something in the previous level that got rid of the water on this level?
looks like a glitch. what version are you running? (haven't played recently)

The patched one. The level isn't supposed to have that much water. The water level is far too high.

I am going to try and download a gamesave from elsewhere online to try and get past that level.

I am disappointed that this is a game breaking bug.
Just covering the basics:

- Have you tried to load a save (more or less old) and see if the same happens?

- If you have not made much progress in the level, it would be best to start it again.
I could be wrong as it is a very long time since i played this and haven't got there again yet with the GOG version, but i don't think it's a bug i seem to remember having to swim or climb somewhere and being able to raise and lower the water levels.
I have figured a work around:

http://www.videogames101.net/tomb1saved.htm

C-Program files-GOG.com-Tomb raider123-tomb raider 1-
TOMBRAID-(paste game save into that folder)

rename file to SAVEGAME.1

When you load the game choose to load it.

I will try their save file and see if i still have the issue.

UPDATE, the GOG save i had was the one with flooded water. But the one i downloaded DOESN'T have that issue.

ah. Never played the "GOG" version, Since I have the CD
Just compare the two pics i attached in my posts. You can see where the water should be. I could only get to the next level by downloading a new save file.

GOG save: http://static.gog.com/upload/forum/2012/07/8dfb0eb21b603ac9cdbae932fe3b5e13e2037ac4.JPG

Non GOG save: http://static.gog.com/upload/forum/2012/07/745951128fd4e963a8c30c06c664bd94ab9db798.JPG

+1 gameon - well done for finding a work around :)
You're right it looks like it's not supposed to start out flooded as you can't get to the keys to complete the level. I would post the problem to gog support and see what they have to say.
