Correction from call of duty 2 they were using the Doom 3 engine and after that they modified it to make it the Call of Duty 4 Engine which the series currently has.

Not sure I quite understand your question. I believe all of those games were built on Renderware. It was kinda the Unreal Engine III of last generation, and powered some really attractive games like Black and Max Payne 2, as well as some from the beginning of this generation like Crackdown (and some Wii titles). But it lost popularity. Apparently it didn't perform well on current-gen hardware.
