Aliasalpha: Unless I'm very much mistaken, mastercard & visa charge a 3% fee on every transaction.
GOG may also be using a third party payment gateway.

orcishgamer: Visa and Mastercard merchant agreements are generally more favorable, so GOG gets a bit more of your cash if you use one of those directly. Paypal is an extra middleman that takes a fee.

For me paypal is the better option because I have it linked to my bank account rather than to my visa debit card. That means they have to send a request to my bank to get the money from my account which usually takes 2 days so I can use it like cheque float and buy things I technically don't have money for so when GOG put up a new game on a wednesday I can buy it even though I won't have the money till friday
Check what Paypal charges the merchant, it's probably a lot more than 2-3%. Plus I'm pretty sure Paypal doesn't pretend it's a debit card even though it drafts directly from your account.
Oh I'd not be in the least bit surprised if paypal was a lot worse, I actually suspect its about 5% based on my occasional selling of things on ebay. I'm not saying that paypal is better than using a credit card, I'm saying paypal is better FOR ME.

Oh sorry, I thought you were intimating it would be better for GOG to buy via Paypal. Why there's no Google Checkout or Amazon Checkout option yet is beyond me, though.
There any restrictions on which countries can use google or amazon checkout? Maybe they have drm

Probably. Do you even have an Amazon for the Oceania region (Australia, New Zealand)?
Not anymore, there used to be an australian amazon but now they just let you view the american shop in australian dollars
i must admit (talking about steam) the bonuses you get here kinda sway me to here rather than steam
