Hello.

For starters, here is the Brutal Doom installation guide. If you can't progress from this one, I will try to further help you.

I think I've got it properly working now, I had to go with zandronum instead of GZDoom. It definitely a lot of fun, especially since I've never played doom before. But it still won't let me save my progress. Every time I try, it says "Unable to create savegame (whatever I put)." Every time I exit the game an error message pops up saying something about "Zandronum cannot be configured, access denied."

It also won't save my control settings. That's pretty annoying.
You'll need 3 things:
An Engine such as GZDoom
The Brutal Doom pk3 file
A .WAD file from Doom 1, Doom 2, or Final Doom

First install any engine such as GZDoom. You can find it here.

Next install the Brutal Doom mod, found here, into the same folder as GZDoom.

Last you will need the .WAD file from the Doom series (Does not work with Doom 3). Go into the Doom 2 folder and copy the .WAD file to the GZDoom folder.

There are many ways to launch Brutal Doom. One way is to drag the brutaldoom.pk3 file onto the gzdoom.exe file to launch it. Make sure the WAD file is in the same folder as gzdoom.

Sounds like that might be an administrator issue from installing in a protected folder such as Program Files, you could try running it as an admin or installing elsewhere.

You can't make it work with GZDoom? What exactly is the problem with it?

There was no sound at all. The FAQ said to try Zandronum if that happened, and now it's mostly working.

Seems like someone had the same problem as you. If you still can't get it to play in GZDoom, then I will also recommend what Smannesman said about the save issue; you should try moving the Brutal Doom/Zandronum folder outside the Program Files.

Well, I installed it outside of Program Files and everything seems to work now. Thanks everyone.
