Well... To be fair, the Steam page has a big text saying: "Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons requires a controller to play", which presumes Xbox compatible controller nowadays. I actually loved the game - even made a topic about it (thoughts within. I make a lot of topics!)

Mivas: I tried demo and it didn't appeal to me. Game mechanisms are very simplistic and a lack of interesting characters or story led to my apathy. I guess it's because I'm rarely into platformers. Maybe one day if someone asks me to play it in co-op if it's possible I'd give it a try for a buck or two.
Nope, it's SP-only. And the game is ... It's basically a fairy-tale, with a lot of room for imagination. That's what I loved about it so much, personally. Mechanics are quite simplistic, but I think it's deliberately so - the game just works flawlessly with them.

It did take its time to grow on me tho.

I am not saying that the game sucks. I haven't played it that much to make any conclusion.
The combination of simple platformer-ish gameplay and story implementation simply didn't manage to keep my attention. I'm more drawn to games with strong narrative or characters and anything outside of it has to feel special to motivate me. That's, for example, why I dropped Giana Sisters after like 15 minutes.

Yeah, I guess I'm just too backward then to accept that "controller" and "Xbox compatible controller" is the same word nowadays, but anyway, the game would work fine with my PS2 controller apart from that turning the crank issue and the camera bug (which I don't know if it's connected to the controller, because I was able to rotate the camera perfectly fine too, with both gamepad or keyboard, the game just didn't recognize it or decided to crash for some totally unrelated reasons, who knows). And why on earth do they show keyboard controls after saying you need to play it with a controller and if the keyboard controls are useless? Doesn't that scream half-assed console port?

I'm not saying that the game itself is bad, not at all (or how should I know?), but I can't enjoy it under these conditions, and it already left such a bitter taste in my mouth that I'm not sure I ever will (even if I had an Xbox and would try to play the game on the console instead). That others love it makes the experience all the more bitter for me because I wanted to love it too. And if there had been a PC demo, I'd have found out the meaning of the word "controller" before giving away my money. Oh well.

Yeah, I think that's why I felt so underwhelmed during the first half an hour or so. One of the things I have to give to this game is its pacing tho - it gets more fantastic and magical every minute you push forward. So... Just pick it up for those two bucks, this game is a nice breath of fresh air. Besides, it's a beautiful example of environmental storytelling.

Well.. We all get unlucky at times. I'm surprised they have even included PC controls TBH.

Mivas: I'm interested in the game. I'm waiting for a bundle or drastic price drop because it doesn't cover themes I desperately miss in games and it uses DRM.
I'm uncertain that it does use DRM, It's mentioned in the DRM-free games on Steam thread. Not 100% confirmed by moving to a completely Steam-and-network-less machine (might perhaps have written stuff to the registry on first launch, rely on something left there by Steam, and/or phone home), but still...
