Elenarie: And what about using ones done by other parties in official releases?
Having the developer's permission to remove the DRM makes all the difference.
As the resident proponent of copyright infringement. I have to say this:

Making, using, and/or assisting in distribution of unauthorized means to bypass DRM is illegal in many countries.

Being accused of breaking the law of a particular country can have unpleasant consequences, including but not limited to IP and e-commerce blocks. It also contributes to a bad reputation with the rightholders.

We want GOG to stay in business, sign up more publishers and release more games. We do not want them to waste resources in a legal battle with an asshole rightsholder.

JudasIscariot: Like I said before, no-cd cracks, patches, etc. still bear the taint of piracy. Asking for them is still considered bad form.
Hook agrees, bad form!
