and well it has over 78 votes in the wishlist ...

i can get the point why new games won´t be online here at all .... because GOG = GOOD OLD GAMES and because it will be expensive ad very difficult ^^ (and perhaps illigal ^^)

but an old game like Birthight ?
i also just found a lot of theads from 2008, so prhaps there had been an anouncment from GOG about this, if this is the main fact pls tell me, if it´s not pls fix it ready for us to buy this awsome one ^^

greetings MErlin ^^
It's already on the Wishlist, so fingers crossed!
I've added a vote for you, it was looking kind of sad with so few votes.

thx :)
GOG only sell games which it has the rights for selling.
Well, no action on this since, well, forever. I have this working on my pc and I would still buy it from GoG. It's not hard to get working, and I have the original CD version with a box and manual and everything.

It's a pretty great game, I don't personally experience many bugs, but then I run clean gaming PC.

I'm a huge fan of it as well. I may have a CD somewhere in my parents' attic. I haven't played it in at least a decade. But I've long dreamed of someone remaking it or making a game just like it.

For those of you who haven't played it, it's a strategy game where you move armies and fight battles. But you also have heroes who you can group together and send parties of adventurers on first-person somewhat Might-and-Magic-like quests. They can find equipment and whatnot to help in the big strategic battles.

All in all, a stellar game.

Commercial flop based on license (Dungeons&Dragons) made by now defunct developer now owned by Activision who does not have D&D license. Should be obvious why GOG hasn't tried hard (not to mention ATARI had exlusive D&D license they lost only couple years ago). It would presumably require an agreement at least between GOG, Hasbro and Activision.

Interesting game but with major flaws. The strategic/empire management aspect was by far the best and most interesting part of the game. Unfortunately combat system and the adventure system sucked pretty badly. The most annoying part I remember was the constant assasinations. Had all my lietunants and ruler assasinated more than once seemingly without any way to stop it.
The adventure system was not that bad if you played the earliest of the action/rpg genres back in the day, it was kind of like a 3rd person Might & Magic. Nostalgia may have protected that part of the game from my ire.

It had a neat system of holdings and what not.

You can pretty much stop assassins but it requires investment into cheap troops, the more troops in a stack the less chance, far less, of your lieutenant getting killed, but yes, that should have cost more resources.

Yes I would like to play the game again... I had a lot of fun with it back in the day
I'd completely forgotten about this game. I remember playing the demo from one of those old PC Gamer demo disks that came with each issue.

The empire management aspect was pretty neat, and I thought it was a pretty original thing to do with the D&D license back then, as most were just pumping out RPGs with it prior. If I remember correctly, Sierra had Lords of Magic come out close to, or around the same time, and they seemed like fairly similar games, with dungeons/adventures empire building, etc.

I'll be honest though, I much preferred LoM after all the bugs had been patched out when the special edition hit.

Birthright came out in 1996. Lords of Magic was late 1997. Never felt they played similarly.

Wikipedia said '97, Moby says '96. *shrug*
That said, it's not that they played similarly? But they had similar motifs. Heavy emphasis on heroes, quests, adventuring, etc. LoM was probably more to compete in the HoMM market, I'm assuming, as was Birthright. HoMM came out in '95.

They both also had Sierra publishing it in common and both being highly ambitious ideas that got mixed reviews due to bugs.
Maaan I remember this game! I thought the Birthright setting was a step in the right direction for TSR but unfortunately it was always destined to be a niche title and was soon abandoned in favor of overexpanding the Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance, because we really need 20 more sourcebooks on 15 subraces of elves and dragons. I say that as a fan of both settings, so take it with a grain of salt.BR was a unique take on AD&D, though. Thankfully ideas later got incorporated into the above settings.

Voted, mayhaps we will see it here someday.

PS-Multiple entries for the wishlist exist, I would suggest adding votes to the one that has 438 votes currently
