Simon, do you want to share your settings, if you have the time? The game's controls suck big time.

I'm using a gamepad, XBox 360 without changing any settings. Works like a charm for me.

If you can't seen to hit a lot at the start, that's normal as you need to upgrade your gun. Once you got a few points in accuracy and get used to the shooting you'll kill like there is no tomorrow ;-)
Well, I picked this up for the 360 today - it was a tenner from HMV, so I thought "What the hell? Why not?".

I'm out for most of the day now, but I'll let you know what I think about it when I've had a chance to play it. I have high hopes, since I'm a big Blader Runner/GitS/Japanime fan :)
Third-person or not I want to use a mouse for shooters. I hope the mouse controls are fixed by the time I play this.

I agree with you, but the gamepad actually is pretty smooth on this one, that's how I played the XBox 360 demo and I had no issues, it was extremely easy, in fact, soon after I played some of the original Gears and that felt really clunky in comparison.

The game was design for the use with a gamepad. Forcing a non-native control on a game hardly ever improves them.

3d person shooters are a console breed and should enjoyed as such.

Every single shooter on consoles was designed for a pad. Doesn't mean they play best that way.
First of all let me second that recommendation. I bought it in the current Amazon sale, had a blast, finished it in three evening sessions, enjoyed it very much.
While I wouldn't agree the story is any good, the acting (ie writing, animation and voice acting) is really great and the gameplay is pure fun.

Second let me alleviate your fear of the port quality. You can change the FOV as well as controls. I played the whole game with KB+M and had no problem whatsoever. Just don't forget to use the configuration tool to find your own settings and change the oscreen prompts to your chosen control method (kb or pad).
