KalarMacBran: I'm not going to say they got it right or wrong, but nobody can ever know how they or anyone else might react until faced with the same situation.
Of course. I was just saying that I don't think an emotional breakdown would be out of the question in such a situation.
KalarMacBran: It's less about how Kaiden and Ashley deal with the situation as it is showing that sometimes there is no good decision...
Exactly my point! But why, after coming up with such a situation, did they do everything in their power to make this decision as easy and sanitized as possible? Would it not have made more sense to let the player have a little taste of what his decision meant? The answer is of course: They didn't want to go to far and upset the player in any way. This is a video game, after all.
Also, while I obviously don't know for sure, I'm convinced the voice actors did exactly what was required of them.
One final point. The whole emotional breakdown thing wasn't actually what I was getting at in the original post. I guess it's the nature of internet discussions that we always end up with the extremes. It's one possible outcome from an extensive list of possibilities.
Why not have Kaidan/Ashley die in Shepard's arms? Why not let them obey their orders, but have them break up contact without another word? Why not have them react very differently from each other? What I'm getting at is, in my opinion Bioware did a cop out and in in the process diminished a potentially very interesting scene.
KalarMacBran: And just my .02 on the rest of the discussion I've read in this topic. Name me one story that is actually original and not filled with at least some cliches in the last 40 years.
I don't think I have ever heard anyone claiming such a story exists. I certainly know of none.
