I am looking for a fun adventure RPG. I am looking for something with a great story that is not combat oriented. I don't mind if it has combat in the game, I just want it to be a side dish and not the main course.

What do you recommend?

If you're looking for non combat RPGs, then you can't do better than Planescape Torment.

It is not a RPG but a good adventure game with a nice story and there are few fights. It's called LIFE.

I am kidding, it's Beyond Good & Evil.

Since we don't have Lands Of Lore, i'd say try Betrayal At Krondor, it has quite a few fights, but they are but means to an end [is that how you phrase it?], and the game itself is heavy on the story, still, that might be too much, considering what You're looking for. ;)

Planescape and Arcanum, in that order.

Divine Divinity or Sacred Gold

if i remember correctly, Divine Divinity was quite combat heavy.. being a diablo clone and all :P

Just get Outcast, it is sort of RPG AND is an action adventure game. Actually, its like you played a movie with complete freedom and world that adjusts to your actions. Amazing game dat.

Seconding Torment and Arcanum.

Broken Sword 1 is also a damn nice adventure game. Not RPG at all, but a very solid point and click adventure.
