EDIT: Actually I did get a response to one of these once, I spoke to the lead dev for Runic and told him I waited for the boxed release of Torchlight because I didn't like activation DRM, I fully understand that they have "refunded" all activations to everyone several times, but eventually they may no longer be around to do this. Mostly he seemed intensely annoyed at me. I know they make like 18-19 bucks per copy digitally and only like 4-6 on retail, I would love to buy it digitally (it's not like they bothered to put anything extra in the box), I just won't buy activation games.
True, but as you pointed out there's always the possibility of one of them caring. And without it the loss in sales tends to be counted as piracy rather than abstention.
