Round 3: Seriously, Go Postal!
This duel was a close one at the beginning, and was pretty neck and neck right until madness has taken over and 60% of our gamers decided it’s time to buy some groceries, return library books, or buy a christmas tree (which is what Postal 2 is all about :)). That is why Postal 2 Complete is now only $3.99. Get completely crazy--unless of course you’re a serious person. In that case, pick up Serious Sam: Second Encounter for $3.59. Our research shows that both of these games will cost you less than $0.01 per dozen kills.

Round 4: Gothic vs Arx Fatalis

Gothic is 3D cPRG in a medieval fantasy setting. The detailed interactive world and the surrounding story will please all fans of epic adventures and give you a chance to grow from an experienced weakling who gets killed by a stray dog into the all-powerful hero The Colony was waiting for.

how the fudge can arx fatalis have more votes than gothic 1...
Maybe it has most of the votes just because of the constant whining about the many votes, Gothic loosing the contest and people not voting for the more expensive game. It might get on the nerves of a lot of users that others try to tell them how to vote and what this contest is about.

Mivas: Aren't the point of this action to vote for the one you want to buy, for cheaper price? I don't understand why people vote for things they already have and make it to be a beauty contest or something.

By the way, I tried both years ago and found them to be plain and boring due to a lack of fine NPC interaction and a use of significantly different areas, thus I'm not voting this time. Great idea, though. I look forward to see next rounds.

jamyskis: Indeed. Everyone's been complaining that Gothic has never been on offer, and now the opportunity is there to have it for 60% off, it's been squandered.

Just wait: a lot of those who voted for Arx Fatalis out of some misguided brand loyalty will be complaining a year down the line that Gothic hasn't been on offer again.
And there u go twisting his words.

There are people here who want Arx Fatalis and aren't interested in Gothic. Not brand loyality or some other bs. I vote for what I want to have - not what other people tell me to.

Welcome to the internet... Gothic will be 40% off in 3 hours and people start to complain because it isn't 60% off -.-

Wake up. Gothic will be discounted. No missed opportunities here. If you want it and have waited for a discount, then buy it. Don't complain because of 2 effing Dollar more or less. That's 1,60 Euro. A regular 50% off-sale would just save you 80 cent (Euro, not Dollar) more...

They're not for everyone, that's true, and they don't excel in NPC interaction (or even plot), but at least in the case of Arx Fatalis that's not what the game is about. It's not Baldur's Gate, it's an action based dungeon crawler in the vein of Eye of the Beholder etc. One wouldn't expect great NPC interaction from such a game. And personally I really liked the choice of areas in both games; if the areas are not completely different from each other, it just makes the setting more credible and that adds to the atmosphere. Both feature a 'realistic' fantasy environment you can explore, no hotchpotch of (partially contrasting) ideas and areas like Forgotten Realms. But in the end it's a matter of taste, of course.

I disagree, I vote for the better game because I want people to buy that better game. In this case it is Arx Fatalis (even though both games are very good). I find all the "tactical, financial voting" takes the spirit out of a contest like this.

Leroux: snip
A better comparison would be Ultima Underworld. Arx Fatalis is basically a remake.

I know, but I intentionally avoided mentioning it, because I haven't played much of UU yet and I wasn't sure whether it might have better NPC interactions. ;)

Still, a dungeon crawler is a dungeon crawler, and despite (or because of) not being familiar with UU when I played Arx Fatalis, it reminded me a lot of Dungeon Master, EOB etc., too. Not so much because of the way combat and magic is handled but because of everything else (the layout of the dungeons, puzzles based on levers, button, secret doors, writings on the wall etc.). If Arx is like a remake of UU, one could also say that UU is a derivative and improvement of the old, tile-based dungeon crawlers.
Gothic has my vote.

^^ This.
Do you people know what the word FUN means? Like the idea of contest or which game is going to win is actually FUN to some of us? But no, you'll be bitching about 2 fricking dollars...
Jeez for a moment I thought Gothic somehow jumped over Arx Fatalis but then I saw first digit :-(
So is Arx Fatalis actually better? I always though gothic was the better game, maybe just more famous hey?

kojocel: I voted for Gothic. Because I'm a Gothic series fan and the game is one of the best games I have ever played. Don't get me wrong, I love Arx, but Gothic surpasses it in so many ways, that if I was to debate, I wouldn't even know where to start.

On the other hand, I assume one of the reasons people are voting for Arx Fatalis over Gothic is their prices: Gothic is 10$, and Arx is 6$.

Better to pay 2,5$ than 6$, eh?
Ah but if people voted for Gothic then they would get it for $4 (60% off), it is just that they aren't doing it.
---------- to the Arx Fatalis voters
I wonder how many who are voting for Arx Fatalis already got it last promo for 50% off, little unfair for the rest of us waiting for Gothic to go on sale. Those that say gothic isn't that good then even more reason it should be sold for less (greater discount). Come on people fight that logic. Oh I get it you don't want it on special so people can't buy it as you deem it crap. I get that, just don't agree.

Yep I am, every bit counts and I've given so much to charity in the last week my wallet is now feeling the pinch right when gog runs these promos. Lets just say I over extended this last month.
It's odd... for all the closeness of the votes, and all the people saying that they're both great games and all that... it looks like, overall, there are going to be less total votes cast for this contest than for the Postal 2 one (which closed with around 19,000 combined votes, yes?).

Nonsense! I think most of the voters voted for Arx Fatalis, because they want to buy it (and aren't interested in Gothic) or because they think it is the better or more interesting game. There isn't a fair or unfair in this choice.

And please stop whining, Gothic is still getting a 40% discount.
