I've made backup DVD's of a couple of downloaded games, but the dvd's aren't any use because they will not install the game when I try to use them. I can access the .exe file and run the game off the Start menu, but of course there's no point in running the game off the dvd because you can't save.

Any clues as to what I might doing wrong? I used NTI to make my backups, and it's always been very reliable for that, data-wise.

Wait, lemme get this straight. You didn't backup the installer? Did you by any chance back up the game files after they have been installed?
It sounds like you installed the games and then backed up those files. You should back up the installers, not the installed files.

You're not supposed to run the games off the DVD... if you've just copied the game files instead of the installer, try copying the contents of the DVD into a folder on your hard drive. Better still, redownload the games and make a backup of the installers.
Yeah, its pretty obvious you backed up the wrong stuff. Backing up the already installed files won't accomplish what you want, only backing up the original installers will.

Frankly, I'm surprised you could run the games off the DVD... although, most of the DOSBoX or ScummVM games should be rather portable like that... hmmmm, a thumb drive and a bit of file copying and you could have a decent "portable game system", just add a PC.
You know what? Forget it. Just write to support about this issue. They'll fix it in a 33.3564 picoseconds.

Btw. Wtf is a jiffy? : /

A little shorter than a smidge, slightly longer than a inaminnit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiffy_(time)
"a unit of time called the "jiffy" which was equal to the time it takes light to travel one centimetre (approximately 33.3564 picoseconds"

Yeah, that's exactly how fast I meant it to be.
Thanks to those of you who actually answered my question.

To the rest of you, some of us are over 60 years old and didn't grow up with the technology. So no need for the sarcasm. Just saying. Cheers.

No one was sarcastic. True the thread did get a little sidetracked towards the end there but everyone did try to help.

You come across as a little ungrateful (as if some of us were making fun of you).
