I wasn't doubting the quality of his work, I was just saying making a sales pitch in 30 seconds can be hard to accomplish.

It's know as the "elevator pitch" (i.e. sell it to the boss between the 1st and 5th floors)
Conventional wisdom (which I don't always agree with) is that if you can't pitch it in 30 sec., you lose.
cool to see you on gog matt, your videos are GREAT :)
Thanks Matt for the guest appearance!

A donate button must be the easiest way to go. And I for one think your insightful, interesting videos on retro computer gaming is easily worth $5 to me every month or so! You strike me as a typical modest Minnesota guy that finds it hard to see the huge impact he's making!

The work you put into your video's and the fact you can get the Tim Cain's of this world to be interviewed demand much respect, and yes, some financial support from retro gamers like us - and dare I say it, retro gaming sites and retailers too!

mattbarton.exe: First off, I want to thank UK_John and others here at GOG.com who have supported my shows and articles. I know I'm not a professional at video, not by a long shot, but I always try my best to do the best job I can. I mainly started doing this because I felt (and still feel) that computer game classics are all but ignored by other media. Let's face it, the vast majority of gamers out there, even the retro ones, are far more interested in Final Fantasy or Mario than King's Quest or Ultima. I've met many gamers who don't have never played a DOS game, much less a Commodore 64 or Amiga classic. I felt bad because the creators and designers of my favorite computer games were not getting the chance to tell their stories, nor were these excellent games really getting the attention they deserved. I had written many blogs and articles about them, but video just seems like the right way to be telling these stories. Only with video can you actually see the gameplay, and that's critical in my opinion.

I'm sure that most of you here at GOG.com must feel the same way. These games and their stories are worth preserving. Mario and Zelda don''t need our help, but games like Darklands, Betrayal in Krondor, and Bard's Tale will fade away if we don't do something to stop it.

I'm not saying I'm the right person to be doing this work, but somebody should do it. Above all, I think it should be someone who truly respects these games, and not just out to act like a jerk for fifteen minutes of fame.

At any rate, I haven't tried to put a donate button on the site because I don't want to take on that kind of responsibility and feel like I let a bunch of people down. Maybe I should, but it has always troubled me. There must be another way.

Matt
nice to see you on here! I really appreciate and value your work, keep it up! :)

TheCheese33: I think going the ad route would help pay for the videos. If I remember correctly, thatguywiththeglasses relies heavily on the ads that play before (and during) the videos.
That's not something I'd be so keen to encourage, personally.
